OK, Cathy what was that you said about rescues needing to go home so there is room to rescue more?! I am very happy and they are a perfect match. She is an older lady whose husband is half retired. SHe had one OES who is elderly and lost one last year to cancer. She is home all the time and wants a companion who will keep her company. He will do that! He will hold her hand all day if she lets him. He has made a full circle. HE is housetrained and follows basic commands. He just wants someone to love him and she will. I am so happy but I am going to miss him so much.. Ok I will try to stop crying! Have a good evening! |

Oh how wonderful and sad all at the same time!!
It must be a great feeling, though, knowing that he's going into an experienced OES home and that she NEEDS him. I know it's hard for you to give him up, but you can be so proud of yourself! Look at all you've done for him, and after such a shaky start! Congratulations! And now on to rescue dog #2! Chris |
Wonderful news! Sounds like a perfect match! Good job! |
I'm sure that his life in his forever home will be wonderful because of you and the work you did! |
Yes, congratulations for all of your hard work. Hopefully his new owners will keep you posted on how he's doing. |
I am Linda and I am so excited about Nikki coming to live with us. Trust that he will have nothing but love and attention.
Even Bubba, our nine year Old English Sheepdog is excited. Nikki will be our third OES. Three years ago we rescued a very senior one from the local rescue society - they thought she was 12. She had a wonderful two and a half years with us in spite of her disabilities (cataracts, thyroid and arthritis). Eventually she passed over due to cancer but she did not suffer one day. And, now we are so lucky to have Nikki coming into our life. I work at home so I have all the time to give him and hope that he will enjoy walking with me, etc. and will love his forever home. Linda |
Welcome to the forum Linda! Congrats to you and your family! It sounds like Nikki has found a match made in heaven! |
Tried to add a photo to my profile of Bubba at the beach! I do not recommend that activity very often unless you have an extra day or two to deal with sand everywhere. But, he did enjoy it!
I think the real hero in all this is the foster mom of Nikki - that takes so much love and devotion. If any of you live in Florida and ever have any puppies - please let me know. Do not want to buy one but Nikki will be our third and we have never seen a puppy. Bubba was a rejected, incorrigible nine month old when we got him. Typical story, someone fell in love with him as a little puppy - loved him but didn't quite realize what a 90 pound puppy would be like. Never been on a leash, shaved down because of the matts, one blue leg from chewing up pens. Three obedience courses later he is still a puppy, of course, in enthusiasm, etc. On Metacamm and thyroid but other than that wonderful. We anticipate no problems with Bubba and Nikki because he has always been around other dogs and we make great efforts to give each dog their own special things, etc. If any of you have done this before and know anything that we might run into would really appreciate the input. When we got Katy the senior one, it was very smooth because I just spent great amounts of time with her and we kept Bubba's life exactly the same and it worked real well. My husband gave Bubba even more attention that he usually gets for a while. There was absolutely no jealously - a little normal competition to see who could get the first pet, or to the door first for walks. |
Congrats to everyone involved with Nikki's case! You did a wonderful thing helping him - and he will be forever grateful. This is one of the hardest parts about fostering / rescue - but when you see how much his new owners love him and needed him - it is all worth it!
Hugs! Kristen |
Here's to another Florida sheepie! Congrats! |
Linda,
Welcome to the forum! Congrats to you and Nikki! I have been reading of his progress and everyone must be so proud! I look forward to hearing more from you and Nikki. Lucy/Thumper, Big hugs, you have done a great job! I bet it is so hard to see him go, but rewarding all at the same time. It has been great to follow his progress. Stormi and co. |
I just wanted to say congrats on everything that has been happening with Nikki! It has been wonderful to hear about his transformation from troubled boy to wonderful housepet! Congrats to both of you, big hugs and I hope to hear more from you, Linda, on how Nikki does in his new home!
Hmm, Florida doesn't sound to bad right about now... I could use a little beach time.... Wanna adopt me? Karen |
Wow! This is fantastic news!!! I'm so happy to have read that it all ended well for everyone involved. Hip Hip Hooray to Lucy's mom!!! Yeah for Nikki's new mom!! Sounds as if you both deserve the angel wings!!
Nikki's mom should you ever need to ask any questions just ask. Many of the members here have helped rescue dogs, myself included, and brought them into our homes with existing dogs. Grannie Smith, the guru of Sheepie rescues is also very good about responding to any quiries you might have. You guys made my day!! I love stories with a happy ending! Marianne and the boys |
Dear Marianne:
Nikki is coming to his new furever home tomorrow. We are so excited and, of course, a little nervous. Have cleared my schedule for the next couple of weeks so I will have a lot of time to devote to Nikki. Do not anticipate any problems with Bubba since he is so socialized and thinks every dog is his friend - when we rescued Katy our last OES, he just accepted her from day one. Of course, she was old and infirm and lazy but she was a pushy little dog and he just rolled with her entry into our home. Keep your fingers crossed for us - but I really think it is all going to go positive. Linda |
Congratulations to everyone who made Nikki's rescue and Fureverhome possible. I'm sure Nikki will be a great companion and friend for you, Linda.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new dog! |
