I'm not surprised. MO has been on Rimadyl for arthritis for 2 years and even at 1/4 dose I've worried about her. She's always been a grass eater, from the day she arrived here. I considered it part of her "routine." But lately the grass eating has been more urgent. What makes this "funny" is she had to push aside snow to get to the grass, that's dedication! So we'll call the vets and make an appointment. If we can get in today, hopefully after warming temps make the short trip.........1.5 miles.....less exciting on the sheet of ice we call a road right now. Poor baby probably has an ulcer. My other concern is what can we give her to control the arthritis pain. Rimadyl has been great! Yes, yes, I know about all the other problems associated with it and have been watching. Without meds she will not put her front left paw on the ground, instead holding it out in front like a waiter with a tray. She's outside with Paul right now, she' happiest with him. He is searching out her grass larder and to see if there's more blood outside. |

poor Mo! hope everything turns out okay....be careful driving! |
Oh no! Poor Mo! I hope it's nothing serious. |
Poor baby......
Maybe it is just irritation from a blade of grass (I hope) We have a few of our dogs on Glyco Flex 3 which I notice a HUGE difference if they are not on it. Paddy was on Rimadyl for two years and I switched him to ascripton and think it works just as well (for him) Of all the years I worked at a vet I saw one case of a dog with liver problems due to Rimadyl and she was not on it regularly. Good luck with Simone. Please let us know how the vet visit goes. |
Vomiting blood or blood in the stool is always a very bad sign. You are right to get your dog to the vet ASAP.
If she is on Rimadyl for chronic pain and buffered aspirin like Ascriptin is not effective, ask your vet for other choices, like Metacam. There are probably better choices than Rimadyl. A lot of us have been through this. Hope your problem is temporary. |
Keep us posted on what the vet says. We will be praying for her. |
Yes, and all fingers and paws are crossed. We hope you get an appt and come back with something positive. Hugs to Mo |
Oh no! I hope she gets the help she needs. Poor thing! |
Poor baby. That would make me anxious too.
Good luck, hope it is all easily sorted out. Sorry, Simone is the poor baby, I'd be freaked out like your hubby |
Oh, poor Mo! I hope it's nothing serious. We had Drez on Metacam for the last few years of her life for pain from the HD. Also had her on Flexicose. Not sure if that's good for arthritis, too. |
Back from vet. MO is NOT depressed so no shock ....obviously as she continues to chase cars down the fence
All sorts of questions, exam showed a tender tummy....either nerves from being at vet's office (most likely) or something else. Drew blood for various panels and clotting time (thinking D-Con) but the clotting time was fine. Other panel results later. Urine also drawn which means the car now stinks of expressed anal glands.....her opinion of that humiliating procedure. Wait for tests but vet thinking liver, kidney or ulcer. I wonder if there's a doggie equivalent of anorexia....this dog has always been a grass eater/vomiter. She woofed down her rice and turkey when she got home as she vomited dinner last night and didn't eat this a.m. We'll see if this dinner exits the normal route out the rear and not returned up front. |
Good luck with dinner taking its time to reappear
I hope it turns out to be whatever easiest to sort out for you all, fingers crossed. |
I hope all is going well with Mo.
My Macy was always a grass eater. She grazed. I worried the 1st several years, talked it over with my vet. Finally just decided it was her choice and let it go. Seeing she lived to a ripe old age, I don't think it bothered her. Now me... that's another story. |
I have two that suffer "Mad Cows Disease" With Kelsey I always know it is a hair ball she can't pass so munch munch munch on grass and in a day or so CHUCK up comes surprises.
Sorry to hear about Mo, I know people that have had great results with the Rimadyl but maybe it might be time to try another of the anti-inflam that is available. Kelsey I had to take off Metacam after 6 months on it due to it affecting her Kidneys, we are on nothing at the moment just natural supplements and hard as not the benefit of stronger drugs to ease the soreness of arthritis. She has always had an intolerance to drugs. Ask the vet about trying another like metacam to help ease Mo. Sometimes they need a change to re-work for them again and keep them comfortable. Keeping fingers crossed for you both. Old Age sucks and is so upsetting to see our babies age. |

No - OK, that was very poor sentence structure. How about -it didn't bother her, but the grass eating bothered me??? I should eat grass - I would save a lot of money not buying lettuce. |

James always teases me when I eat mixed greens and says the same thing "Why don't you just eat grass?" To which I respond "Do you see what goes on on our grass?!" |
awwwwwwwwwww huggies to Big Mo. We hope all turns out positive for her Susan............
Someday i want to make it back down your way. I think of the smell of Santa Fe and Old Town in ABQ this time of year......... Maybe we can plan on the Santa Fe Opera next summer????? Just need to let me know enough time in advance. |
Mad Cow Disease! I love it. She has been eating grass since she first arrived.........perhaps to clear the pipes, perhaps just to snack on something.
So far rice and turkey have remained down. No carpofen for the arthritis, so she'll be hopping around on 3 paws by tomorrow. That too is heart breaking. The poop shows no signs of blood but you bet I'll be looking carefully and rushing out to examine her trail. MO is 11....?? how did that happen? Ali, opera tickets sell out quickly these days. Since Natalie Dessay is singing La Traviata, you know those tickets will sell quickly. Really understand your longing for the scent! We too are part of this cold wave, you know the smoke is hanging heavy in the old sections. We no longer have a stove or fireplace so no longer enjoy New Mexico insence. |
Summer grazes on plants out the garden. I have given up chasing her away. We say "Summer is at the salad bar again!" She also will steal lettuce out the fridge, cabbage or parsley. Think she could be a vegetarian and I havent noticed.
Hope you baby continues to improve |
okay heres the deal. We need to get ahold of the next season and pick what we want to see now and get tickets and just PLAN on it!!!
Oh if i could find someone to let me come down for just 2 days... I miss enchiladas at the old resturant in Old Towne. Or, at the Pink Adobe ikn Santa Fe. I know if anyone hasn't been down there this time of year you must think we are crazy but there is no other place i would rather be at this time of year... Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque. mmmmmmmmmmmmm I actually need to go toa really really good tourquoise dealer as i want to sell a lot of my mom's jewlery. Very Very Classic cachino belts, squash blossom , fetish necklaces, teardrop tourquois and red coral drop.... I wear very very infrequesntly . they need to go to someone who would appreciate it. And know how much to ask for them all too. Joseph Blackfeather sealed wrings etc. Watch bands etc. Let me know when you decide about the Opera........ I'll start on the plans. Mabe this year we'll get it together!!!! |
Lab tests are back and nothing abnormal, but a specific white blood cell (I forgot which one) was borderline. This was also true last time and vet suggest stool culture to rule out parasites. OK there. This time, the same results, so now pointing more towards food allergies.
In mean time some Pepcid AC for awhile to help settle tummy and a switch to a hypoallergenic food. Will Try Van Patten's before going with the $$$$ prescription food (thankfully this is our 59 lb sheepdog) Until I can get into town for the Van Patten's we'll stay with turkey and rice and will record what all she eats (snacks??) to see if we can pinpoint allergy........wheat?, corn?, soy? some protein? |
