I hope Baloo does too What are some tips/advice you all have for us? We'll take all we can get!!! |

Have fun.
I think it is one of the least stressful performance events you can do because you can talk to your dog and praise them while you are going through the course. Harry watches me the whole time - otherwise the only time he looks at me is when he wants what I am eating or when he is wanting attention when I am on the toilet. It really can be a lot of fun and a great way to bond with your dog. |
new tip I learned this weekend - use long strips of a treat (dehydrated meat) in your hand when you are using a treat. I came away from class quite bruised on Sunday .
Have fun! and pay attention to detail if you plan on competing. my instructor believes everyone should aim for 100 points, so we break down every movement into little steps - often learning the footwork without the dog is important too for some of the turns. oh and did I say Have Fun? He's a sheepie - he will put his own stamp on it |
Oh!!! Very COOL!
And Kerry - you and Morgan will have semi-local company in the rally ring!!!! Here's my advice: don't train just for rally - train like you're training for competitive obedience (which you are, you just don't know it yet ) and use it as a launching pad to get his CD! Kristine |

Kristine yeah heard that before too - only thing is I have no interest in obedience. rally is much more my speed. Its all for fun |

Its all for fun You had no interest in rally until you tried it....or am I confusing you with Judi... It's not that big a stretch to go from rally to a CD. You do all that work you might was well go the extra step and teach him how to stay and how to stay with you while you aren't chattering and allow someone to touch him while he does a stand-stay and to come when called from the other side of a ring and, oh, my! There's your companion dog title with mimimal bloodshed No one said you HAD to get a 200. Kristine |
I have always been interested in rally - since i watched some crazy lady in VA at the nationals
actually it appeals to my add and I could not stop myself talking if I tried |

Yes I confess that was me. I still don't have that much interest in it but Harry likes it AND as mentioned earlier he actually looks at me for direction which is a good thing. I have never taken a class in rally - but took him through a couple sessions of novice obedience. I think we know enough to compete at the novice level being on leash and that he knows a his finishes. Kristine - it is a BIG leap to obedience if you cannot keep your mouth shut in the ring. Hey Kerry - the fact that she is starting to get confused over us is one step closer to us taking possession of Sybil. |

true, but she may never know which one |

That really doesn't narrow it down much! We're all a little touched!! KB |

Hmph!!! Anyone who genuinely wants the pleasure of Ms Sybil's company - and if you had been at my house yesterday morning when I awoke to one of her overnight rampages you would realize that the white-coated gentlemen are actually keeping a close eye on you both for your predeliction! - has to go through Sybil's "godmother", Sunny (Lucali). Who happens to be having a birthday today... One the plus side, thanks to the this rally discussion, I now know what to get both of you chatter boxes for Christmas: duct tape!!!!! Anyone else? If this is a common problem among OES handlers perhaps I should start buying it by the case? Kristine |
Happy Birthday Sunny!! |
About the duct tape.....I am in that group too. I actually got my mouth taped shut by my frustrated 5th grade teacher......
And I was dead meat when my embarrased mom found out. Good thing I was getting my tonsils out the next day - guess she thought that was punishment enough! his_armywife - I think it is great you are doing Rally!!! We love it! I know you and Baloo will do great. |
