Twilight saga

So i know that the Twilight Saga is technically certified as Young Adult fiction, and while nobody is old on this forum, b/c the sheepies keep us young...er, eh i think u get what i mean

Anybody read the books, which are freakin fantastic, or saw the movie???

I actually saw the movie first. Which despite some strange choices about depicting love (creepy stalkery staring), the movie was actually quite good. And after my sister pestered me to read the books, i am totally enthralled by this story :P

The movie followed very very very closely to the 1st novel, which surprised me. As all 4 novels in this series are very long. It was done artfully and pretty much surmised the characters very well. Although i must admit i pictured a different Edward, more towards David Boreanze(sp?) character in Angel.

The story that Stephanie Meyer creates is amazing and so is her following. If you check out her website you'll see what i mean! She actually just came out with her 1st adult fiction title called The Host. I'm only in a couple of chapters but i can tell that it is gonna be good.

I read all the books in about week. I couldn't put them down.
I read the books before I even realized there was a movie being made, I tend to do that...... my husband says I read too much, lol. I haven't watched the movie yet, but I have a friend who has seen it, and it made her go get the books, which she just finished the last of as well. I almost didn't get them at the library when I saw the young adult label, but then figured I'd check them all out anyways. I'll read anything just about, except sci-fi basically. I thought they were very good books, and I'm all for anything which encourages the younger generation to read (oh my, I just made myself sound old..... 8O  ) I just checked out another Stephanie Myer novel, The Host, haven't started it yet as I got distracted by some of the other books I picked up (Laurell K Hamilton and Diane Mott Davidson). Hoping The Host is as good as the others!
I started reading the books at the beginning of last year sometime when it was only "Twilight" which had come out and it still had this really crappy, sort of disturbing cover  My partner took one look at it and told me to get rid of it before he had nightmares :P I'm very grateful they made the new covers!

I was pretty irritated at the idea of turning it into another teen frenzy with the movies, but now I don't mind and I'll b off to see it too when it comes out (not until tomorrow here)
My son and I have read the first 2 books. I read the first one in 2 1/2 days... but the second book I actually read in one day. Hubby and kids were gone... it was cold and snowing... I was snuggled on the couch with a fire and the book. Couldn't stop reading.

My son read both books in one week. He's been bugging me to get the 3rd one... (shhh, he will have it for christmas!)

We have not seen the movie. Son's gf has... says she loved it.
I just read Twilight and I liked it so much more than I thought I would. I'm really looking forward to reading the other books and seeing the movie.

Somehow, it seems like such a non-Mormon housewife story to me. It's hard to believe that that's Stephenie Meyer's background. I think it does good things for the Mormon image.:)
 I totally agree with the mormon housewife image!!! I read the Twilight without realizing this and it kind of took me aback when i found out! she said that the basic premise, specifically the scene with Bella and Edward in the meadow where he sparkles in the sun, was a dream she had. Then one summer she wrote Twilight then just for the heck of it wrote about 6 different sequels and 3rd, and 4th books. Her sister finally convinced her to send out some requests and viola- famous and a millionaire in less than a year!

I saw the movie one night after work on a Monday and at 1 am i was knocking on my sister's door to get the books. Tuesday i read the 2nd book, on Wednesday i read the 3rd book on Thursday i read the 4th book. Which was fun b/c i was so immersed in the books that i even dreamed them!!! An individual where i work got mad at me and turned in, so i was reassigned at work , which meant for 8 hours everyday i only had to answer a few phone calls and read read read!!!

I'm glad they re-released the books with new covers, they are cooler and don't look so much like kid books. I think the only thing that makes them young adult fiction is the fact that the story basically progresses through the characters high school experience, meaning teens would be be able to possibly related more to the characters.

:!: Just an FYI- Stephanie Meyers is writing/wrote a companion book to Twilight which is called Midnight Sun. It's the story of Twilight but told from Edwards perspective. She had written 12 chapters of this book, but then somehow it got leaked in the web and she was really disappointed so she vowed never to finish it. But recently she announced that her next project would be to finish Midnight Sun!!!! She even posted the 1st 12 chapters on her website, so people wouldn't have to feel guilty for trying to find them somewhere illegal. I have read it and its great, helps u see into Edward's thought patterns to explain why he acted so weird at 1st.

Can u tell I am a little obsessed with her books right now! 8O

Ren M
I have GOT to read those 12 chapters then!! I am going to look for them now...

(PS everybody.... I can tell you first hand that the typical Mormon housewife appearance is... well, not nearly as all appears!) ~
I'm going to be starting the Twilight series after I finish Cesar Millan's latest....

:D
Okay, I love, love, LOVE the books...but am I the ONLY one that DID NOT like the movie?!

I put off reading these for a long time because I didn't think it was my kind of book but everyone I knew had read them and loved it so I finally caved. Once I started reading I was completely hooked. I saw the movie 24 hours after finishing Twilight and I wasn't impressed. I realize the movies are never as good as the books but this one just had a bad "B" movie feel for me. I didn't think the movie did a very good job of portraying the intensity of Edward and Bella's relationship. Actually I didn't think there was much depth to any of the characters. I can't put it into words but everything just seemed so random. I don't want to give anything away here.....but the worst part for me was the "stand-off" scene in the meadow during the baseball game. I wanted to laugh out loud. The stand-off looked more fitted to be a scene in a musical! It seemed more like the Sharks and the Jets to me than menacing vampires!! (No offense to West Side Story of course).
i read the books also last winter while on chemo....i read them in 3 days, i think.....they were really good....and when i finished the last one, i really, really was ready for the next....
i thought the movie followed along closely with the events in the book, but it seemed like a vital part was missing??? i don't know how to explain it either 8O Bella and Edward's relationship in the book was a billion times more real than what they showed in the movie! The movie it was all about creepy stalker staring and awkward lines, mmm i certainly hope the next one portrays the spirit of the books better :!:
I got the other three in the mail today and I'm looking forward to reading them. I bought The Host, too. I think I'm going to save them all for the holiday break. :)
I just got the Host too, and honestly I am having a really
hard time getting past the first 40 pages. I think I have
started it 5 times now. Usually I'd have it read in a few hours,
but this one isn't grabbing me.

Shellie
TRUST me get past the 1st couple of chapters and it really gets going!!! I would tell you when things start to pick up but it would reveal too much!!! It took me three days to get into the Host. I would pick it up, read a page or two then put it down
But once you get into it, Stephanie Meyer sucks you into a fantastic literary world and won't let you go!!!! I think its harder to get into this one b/c you are trying to figure out everything and understand how this alien life force works, if you just read everything will be explained!!!! Oh and did i mention that she said she's already written the 2nd and 3rd books to The Host! She just hasn't sold them yet as she is taking time off to be with her family

Ren M
I watched the movie last night and, though I think the actors for the roles were perfect, if I hadn't been a fan of the books, I'm not sure I would've liked it too much. You really do lose the intensity in their relationship which is really the biggest part of the story! I do like that I read the book after seeing the previews for the movie so the characters were always the movie actors in my head.

The worst part of the movie is that I feel like I am too old to have the crush that I do on Robert Pattinson.
u are never too old to have a crush on Robert Pattinson. I know i do, but only when he's in character. I think he has a weird face shape as a normal person, but as a kick a** vampire he is HAWT! Some Twilighters may declare mutiny on me, but i like him better with SHORT hair.

Amazon.com has a great deal on a box set of Twilight Saga, but only if u buy it new and from Amazon. I saw people on there trying to sell the 4 books for almost $400 USED!!!!!! 8O

Ren M
My husband would like to say "Thank you VERY much,I got NO attention all weekend after buying Lynzi the Twilight novels you were all talking about, she didnt stop to eat,to sleep,or anything else.So many thanks!!!"
Honestly,I LOVED them.I dont know if I want to see the movie/s,what if the actors are not my idea of how they are in my head right now?
And Stephenie makes me have to rethink what I thought I knew about Mormons...what an imagination! And she says she is a fan of My Chemical Romance! Why didnt she insist Gerard Way played Edward?
 Another one converts!!! My job is done

Just think of the movies as companions to the books. They will NOT be anywhere as good as the books but they add a lot to the books, and in some cases, take away from them. Like the Cullen's skin in the sun. I couldn't picture it in my head but the movie effect was PERFECT. 8)
And besides everybody always will have their own versions of Bella and Edward and so on.... so the movie actors may or may not do it for ya  IMO Kristen Stewart is often misunderstood in Hollywood, and she HATES doing press, but she only read the 1st book to do the movie Twilight. I think you should have to read all of them so you get a well rounded explanation of the character, i think it would have helped her SO SO SO much as she portrays Bella on the big screen. :?

Anywho, I'm glad that someone else as fallen in love with Stephanie Meyer! Don't forget to check out her other novel The Host!!!!

Ren M
Oh if you are counting,my 14 y o daughter read them too,she has seen Twilight, loved it,loves the books ,has all her book club at school reading them and borrowing each others books. They saw the movie in the school hols and didnt know it was from a series of books until I read it here and told her.Now they are all gushing about Edward.I pity any boy who attempts to date these girls.I put on my daughters Facebook "Kristy likes her boyfriends cold, dead and shimmering".

I think the later books will make amazing movies,be so interesting to see Jacob grow to 6 ft 7 or whatever and change to a wolf, and the vampire/werewolf fight scene. And it would be amusing to see the scene in the tent when Bella was too cold and the wolfman had to warm her up,in front of Edward.
Second thought,I think I will go see the movie.
Just wanted to throw in here - I did finally read Host.
It took me a couple more tries, but once I got through
the first 150 pages or so it really picked up and I read it
straight through. I really really liked it. I am so glad you
told me to stick it out Ren M! Thanks
It took me several hours, but it was worth it.

Shellie
:clappurple: :go: :clappurple: I am so glad you were able to push through on the Host. I don't know what it is about those 1st couple of chapters but dang! The chapters themselves are necessarily bad, but it's like you just can't wait to see who is going to win control of the mind and thus the body!!!

I like that...cold, dead, & shimmering :P I love the effect in the movie of the shimmering, sigh. While i don't really like Robert Pattinson (sp?) i do like him in character of Edward. I told my sister that he wasn't a very good looking human but he is one very sexy vampire

I try to convert as many people as possible over to Stephanie Meyers. My husband thinks that i should be paid for all the promoting i do  IDK why. I grew up only be allowed to read books by Christian authors and i read A LOT 8O So after 18 years of reading basically 3 different plot lines told every which way imaginable, my brain was starved for some creative geniusness. And i think Stephanie's personal value system bodes well to my sensibilities. (I find it disconcerting after so many years to have read...descriptive love scenes or a lot of cussing) Plus i love sci-fi type stuff. I can't wait until she gets to releasing books again. Since I've started this thread i have re-read the Twilight saga, Midnight Sun twice and the Host again ( i reread it out loud to my husband. i REALLY wanted him to read it, but he falls asleep so fast when he tries to read. :o )

ren M
my daughter bought them to read on the bus in summer. She told me to read them that I would like it. I am not into vampire anything. But I did read them and they were great.
I just couldnt stand another day of watching all the real life horror going on here in Oz on the news anymore so I spent the morning watching music clips on Youtube that people have made featuring the Twilight clips and I take it all back!!The actors who play Bella and Edward are perfect.I had only seen them in still photos before. And Carlisle..how more vampirish can a human be???Did someone just make him for the role???I love Jacob but he isnt a patch on Edward.
Rosalie and Alice were exactly as I had pictured them, not so much Emmet and Jasper but I love them too,I have replaced my earlier mental images.
And what a waste, that hunk who played James!he should have been a good vampire!!I read many times its being filmed as a trilogy, does that mean they arent doing Breaking Dawn (it would be SO hard to make that into a movie) or are they condensing some of the 2nd book,I got SO sick of Bella when Edward left her,I wanted to go bite her myself.
A JOKE FROM MY 15 YO SON
possibly he is fed up with my 14 yo daughter and I talking Twilight all the time.We were having a whinge about how aggravating Bella was when she was trying to decide between being with Edward or Jacob.
Son piped up "Edward should have made her go on "Its Me Or The Dog"."
LOL
Question??? So I'm re-reading all the books again  and i just started Eclipse. Something just occurred to me. When does Bella start receiving college tuition money from that fake company(it's Edward)?? When does she gather all the money up and put it into a box and through it through the Cullen's window??? Am i thinking of another book? I could have sworn that Bella broke the Cullen's window when the house was deserted and she was mad. Then the Cullen's came back and she is embarrassed to apologize to Edward.........I can't seem to find it and i don't remember the Cullen's leaving again.

Maybe I am going crazy. I've read the books too many times and they all run together in my head like a movie

Ren M
The college money was from a chapter that Stephenie wrote, but I don't think it was included in the books. You probably read it on her website. She has quite a few alternate book parts on the website.
Thank you! Now I remember it was on her website in the outakes section!!! Pheww, I thought I was going crazy when I finished New Moon and hadn't seen it yet:0)

Ren M
OK. I have spent the last 4 days reading the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and online 5th from Edward's point of view. I read the 1st book a little after the movie came out.

I agree with Lynz, Gerard Way would make a good vampire too, but I think the Edward choice was right for the time period he is supposed to come from. He does make a great vampire.

I have always thought vampires were sexy...and I loved the series. Sigh...now what do I read? Is the Host one of hers too? I think my daughter has that book.
Host is one of her books but its so different.I am trying to stop reading the Twilight series,as I have read them about 3 times now,and seen the movie of Twilight 4 times, and pre ordered the 2 dvd set,the darn thing is just addictive.
Dont forget to go to Stephenies site and read the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun.Its the book she was going to write about Edwards point of view of Twilight and its fascinating but some B stole it and put it on the internet so she shelved it and just lets fans read what she had already written. Its so good and better from his point of view than Bellas in many ways,it really tells us whats going on with his mind and with his family and I am so sad she hasnt finished it.She says she "may" but has no firms plans to.Apparently The Host is going to be a trilogy so she wants to work on that.
I read what she has on Midnight Sun. It does say at the bottom of the webpage that it is her next project. I am not sure but I think that comment was written recently...vampire fans can only hope.

I like the T-shirt that says "I :hearts: boys who sparkle". Since I turned 50 last year I don't think that shirt would be ok for me however...my teenage daughters would kill me!!!!
