a good training weekend

okay maybe half a goood training weekend. I skipped agility class on Saturday because of the two hours I spent in Emergunt care on Friday night being treated for an asthma incident - and yes Kristine I scheduled a make up class :)

On Sunday Morgan and I went to rally class- its a class of four dogs (one is the instructors Malinois who has an excellent title in Shutzhund and the other two shelties belong to my old instructor and the training club instructor) Morgan and I take class to strengthen his muscles to compensate for CHD and to keep his mind sharp because of the Lyme. he loves it because we train with TREATS!!!! (not so good with the hypothroidism  ) But I think its his "thing". we will probably compete starting in the spring.

anyway, yesterday Morgan got all raves in class- I got a few reprimands -but he was brillant. and we were working on left turns and left finishes without a halt. not the really easy stuff. he was working on more advanced moves than the the two shelties and really out performing them in all ways - he is a flashy looking mover with his short hair and his head glued to my leg style of healing - and anyone who thinks sheepies don't drool should have seen my near frozen pants walking out to the car after an hour and a half lesson.

way to go Morg!!!! 8) :D :D :D 8)

And you and Judi are waiting for ME to be carted off to the looney bin??!! 8O

I know, I know. Priorities and all. 8) :) :D

Glad you're OK.

I had a feeling Morgan might enjoy rally. The big surprise is that it seems to be a mutual feeling!!!

Really wish you guys lived closer. I promised Jan we'd start looking at rally trials. The more the merrier and all that. 8) Keep us posted!

As I recall, the last time I suggested this, you quoted me our terrible tax structure coupled with cost of living vrs salaries. And you're right 8)

Which other midwestern state catches your fancy?

Kristine
LOL, I don't know if MN would be better tax/job-wise. But we have lots of fun rally trials (and weight pulls) :D :D

Plus, MN and WI are adjoining, so we are an easy commute back and forth to events in both states. Trust me - LeAnne and I do it OFTEN!
We even decided if we didn't live in MN, WI would be our next choice.

Oh Kerry - I have the key to Kristine's house.......(think about that one...)
I watched the news this morning - you guys had some awful white stuff falling. 8) 8) 8)
Good job Morgan, on both your moves and on drooling on mom's pants. :D

Kerry, I am surprised too that Harry likes Rally since he cannot run wild but he does.

Val and I have entered our first real rally trial (without the safety net of all OES people) in January. Thank goodness we have each other - we will need it.

you are much braver than I - but I also have no support around here - all alone in NY

Well we are not brave - but we can't just sit on a qualifying leg from Nationals. Val and I are WAY too competitive for that.

The majority of the sheepdog performance people are all without Sheepie support. It just makes it more amazing when one of us shines with an OES. When the general public expectations are low, (like alot of obedience judges... ) It is really nice to go in and show them what a good working team can do. It is funny when some of the border collie and golden handlers come up to us after we get out of the ring asking if Mattie is really an OES, cause they never thought one could work that well.

(In lieu of an introduction):
Michelle Redfern, DVM and Mattie (It's A Mad Mattie World CDX, RE)
also all alone in SC up in the mountains
welcome Michelle.
I think I just need someone to hold my hand for one event and then I will be fine. and they don't have to have sheepies :D
One of the best things I have found to do is to either join a club, steward for a class before you enter a show and in general have a good time, get comfortable before you show and then go and enter a trial. That way you are a little more comfortable before you get there to actually go in the ring.

Oh, it rained, then it snowed. Now it's blowing. And it's only December.  :P A co-worker and I bolted out of work early.

Gonna be a long winter

Maybe I really do need to get serious about that dog sled...It's only about a 3 mile drive if I take the back roads (which I can't always during inclement weather since they rarely plow them). Probably less than 2 miles if I head straight over some fields... :lmt:

Though I really can't imagine a team of OES taking nicely to spending the day tied up outside waiting for me. After Sybil finished eating the sled, what's left to do?

Kerry,

You could always plan your first competition around the Salt City Cluster the last weekend in March when you MIGHT have some sheepdog company. Though that is also the same weekend as the last Pittsburgh Specialty

Judi & Val - way to go! Proud of both of you for taking the plunge! 8)

Live dangerously - go for the 2 miles cross country.

We got the crap weather too, but thankfully only the snow. Only 4 inches though, so just a minor inconvenience. Now it it -5 F degrees, so Bbrrr!

Oh, brrr! You can keep that. It was -4 when I got up one morning this weekend. Pottying the dogs at the trial was fun. We all had a party when it hit four above  8)

I've threatened to come in on skis, but one wonders how long it would take me. That and would I actually find my way in blowing and drifting snow. Then again, what makes me think the dogs would be any better at it unless I ask our office manager to grill some brats just outside the office door to serve as an olfactory beacon
