These people have! |

oh my god! I would be praying for a blackout until after christmas ......and I'm not so much the praying sort! |
WOW... I would hate to see their electric bill when the season ends.
It was pretty amazing though. Took alot of thought to get the lights to be just 'right' |
Wow.
There's a house near me that does a crazy amount of lights each Christmas. If we go drive by I'll take a picture and show everyone. |
Obviously they are doing their part to help support the local power company :D
We have a few people in our neighborhood that really enjoy putting on the lights for the Christmas season. One of them spends 2 weeks laying the lights out 8O Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Abby |
I love Christmas and the different displays that people put up. In the city I work in, there is a beautiful display, that is done every year, called Christmas tree lane... and then there is that..... At what point was it too much... I wonder. I but he/she is trying to figure out what more they can add....
I have a neighbor who puts up white and blue icicle lights that blink at a fenetic pace..... and then installs as many of the blow up figures on the lawn that will fit.... They look like blobs on the lawn when not plugged in.... Oy.... |
I think the video says it costs $45 worth of electricity... but I couldn't make out the small print if that was per night or for the whole year.
Wanna see what their place looks like during the day? You can click through on this picture to the full size, but be forewarned -- it's big. |
just imagine Archie's reaction to that |
They are a 30-45 minute drive from our house. Very pretty to see in person. Traffic is a bear.
They have a club down here for people who are interested in doing something similar. Lots of advice and help available. It seems like many of the neighborhoods around here do this. No way would my husband do it. I believe it is 45/night for the electricity, but that was two years ago. Of course, they paid tens of thousands for the computer set up, programing, electronics to run it, lights, additional electrical boxes. and whatever else I forgot. |
Just proves the saying here in Texas.....Bigger than Dallas |
Very cool!
(Says me who lives in darkness in rural MN with no neighbors in sight..... ) |
From last year.
http://www.dallasnews.com/video/?z=y&nvid=199752 You may or may not have to register - they have never sent me anything. Our part of the Metroplex has very few native Texans, with the exception of children. My best friends here are from New Mexico, Penn, and Oklahoma. |
OH my, I like it dark, AS IN NO LIGHTS, to sleep. If I can see my out-stretched hand it's too light. How do these people sleep |
Just doing the math on the electricity cost: The sign said it was 118 amps max. Multiply that by 120 volts is about 14 kiloWatts at the max (all lights are on); they run it for 4 hours a night, that's 56 kiloWatt hours max. The price of a kiloWatt hour in Texas is probably 12 or less. .12 * 56 = $6.72. So it probably costs less than 3 bucks a night. So that's probably $45 for the month! Pretty cool! |
That is totally cool to be able to drive by and not live near. |
