He says they feel jealosy, pride, envy and embarrassment. Also they particularly hate to see their owners offering affection to other dogs and can suffer badly when a new boy or girlfriend is brought home. In most cases of jealous behaviour the dog tried to prise its owner away from a new partner in the early days of the relationship I dont think Tiggy is ever embarrassed though, she just loves attention, attention and more attention, and if being a clown works, well so be it. |

Thats so true.We had a maltese shihtzu cross who chose my 4th son Joshi as her idol and she would do anything for him.He eventually left home and she stayed here with us(being our dog and all). When he came home to visit, she was ecstatic and wouldnt leave his side. Then he got a girlfriend, got engaged and brought the fiancee to stay here and immediately,Lucy went and peed on the bed they were to sleep in.She made her feelings really clear."I love you Joshi,I dont even care to comment on her,my actions speak louder."She never ever repeated this if Joshi came home alone, when the fiancee came, she did it every single time. |
hee hee, that's a classic!! Definitely actions speaking louder than words. Must have made his fiance a bit paranoid.
All the dog and cat people that I know have always insisted that their pets get jealous etc. But the animal behaviourists have tended to explain the pets' actions in terms of behaviouralism. Looks like all those who share their lives with pets were bang on the money. |
If george does something that we laugh at he always walks away into another room, as though hes embarassed
I swear you can almost see his cheeks turn pink |
I've heard that quite a few times over the years. I know dogs are def jealous of each other from first hand experience. I'm sure some of you fellow org members can agree with me on that. |
If I dare to pet Daisy or Taggart and Kiera is in the room, she will get pissed off. She does a number of things, one is to try to get between me and the other dog, or she bites at the other dog, more in a threatening way than to hurt them. She is so sure that she is number one that she can't stand the thought of me petting anyone but her.... I'm hers and only hers, she is my shadow when I come home till I leave for work. This is the same dog who would not even give me the time of day when we first brought her into our family.
I have witnessed dogs who have a sense of humor, pride, and embarassment... So when the brains say that we "assign" human emotions to our dogs, I can tell you that they have never shared their life with a dog... or they would know. |
Like when I give Shamu a bath and haircut she prances around and is so proud of herself |
Our Spencer just loves pushing himself between me and any guest that comes to visit. I know he thinks they are here to visit him and has to be the center of attention. He isn't rude but make sure that you know he is there. He also hates my paying attention to one of the cats, he just plants himself dead center so that I can't reach either Spice or Goodman and I have to give him the patting. I know that they feel a lot of the same emotions that we do. |
Well of course they have emotions! Just the other day I was holding the kitchen door open for Glacier who has to climb 4 steps first and was giving it much thought.......work for a short legged, ancient dog. Problem was I had to Peeeeeee! So I decided to let the door close, I'd run to the bathroom and come back for her. No way! She stuck her nose in at the last minute, used her head and neck to open the heavy steel door, came thru and then came over to me and gave me a body slam! "I was coming, how dare you shut the door in my face!" Hard to walk cross legged to the bathroom while laughing. |
My hubby had a cocker spaniel when we got married,Daisy, she hated me,she would always sit between us when we sat on the couch. She would start by sitting beside hubby then wriggle her way behind him until she was sitting between us.She paid constant attention to him and ignored me.If he was out and I was at home with her,she would go up to a ladys house up the street and the lady would cook her a snack!
Daisy was always trying to kiss hubby, sit on his lap, etc.I had my first OES so I didnt care but Daisy became extremely jealous when our first son was born. One day we were gardening and our baby son was on a baby bouncer inside the sliding glass door watching us and Daisy saw my hubby smiling and waving to the baby and she threw herself at him, luckilly the glass door was between them.We all decided she would be happier with the lady up the road after that! |

Really? Then just as well we prefer Old English Sheepdogs.
I missed the "has your husband ever banned you from something" thread,I could have put, since HE bought the labradoodle for our daughter,he has banned every breed of dog except OES from joining our family.I can live with that! |
