shave the head?

Sprocket is getting shaved this Sunday. My questions is this..... do I have them shave his head/face? He is getting a pretty short hair cut, so will it look crazy if his head is still very fuzzy while the rest of him is shaved down? I have no idea what to do... any advice would be helpful!

I'd blend accordingly with the body. That way you don't have a poofhead or a baldy!

Go through the gallery of photos to find some "looks" that you like and take them with you to show the groomer. Visuals are always good.

DITTO DITTO DITTO DITTO. :)
Ditto the above, but I will take Chauncey back a couple of weeks later to blend the head area with the body again. Anytime you leave an area longer it may need to be blended a few times.
I don't mind the bald is beautiful look, but blending the hair down is far, far better than leaving the head long haired and the rest shaved down.
thanks for the advice. The reason I asked is because last time I had him shaved (which was the first time) they left his face very furry. I thought it looked weird, but didnt say anything because I figured this was common practice. After looking through the pictures on this forum I noticed that a lot of people go ahead and shave the face and head too. That's what I did this time and he looks SO much better (naked, but better).

Thanks guys,

I am not sure how to put a photo in here, but if you look at the photo in my photo section, I put it there to show you why you don't want the head left long. It looks ridiculous. There is also a photo of him completely shaved down and imho he looks quite handsome. (If I can figure out how to get it in there.)

This was my first sheepdog's first "professional" groom, at supposedly the "top" groomer in my area. Cost me close to 150.00 in 1992 and took two days. A month prior he had won 4 ribbons in a dog show.

To this day, this photo embarrasses me.
I always keep a fluffy head and am not a big fan of them completely shaved. I don't think they look bad, and many people have cute sheepies, but prefer them to look shaggy on top!! ...just wanted to chime in that not everyone thinks alike! :) I do like your new updated avatar (original poster). Mine in my photo is just a few inches on the body but long hair on top.
I really think it depends on the dog - not a fan of the terrier look myself. My boy is so cute with a shaved head - I do prefer a little fur on my girl, but will shave her down if it makes life easier on her :) (of course we leave the ears 8) )
Hi,
I didn't mean to insult anyone on their taste in hair cuts. I think my photo does not show how bad the haircut was - another one looks even worse but was even more embarrasing.
There was no blending involved and the body was more than shaved - he was scalped! (And not even consistently scalped at that...notice little tufts of hair here and there...)
I do prefer completely shaved, ("7F all over please") myself, but can see how the slightly fluffy head and shaved down body would give you the best of both worlds.
Soooo, if anyone was insulted I do aplogize. Tact is not always my strong point, though I should pay closer attention!

I don't think anyone was insulted - unless I missed something.

Shaving your dog in Winter?

he doesn't mind the cold. he still stays outside eating snow. then when he gets too cold he comes back inside and cuddles with me on the couch.
