Is there anything we can do to make him feel better? How long do you think it'll be before the shampoo itchiness wears off? |
|
its probably because you need to rinse mor e- I always think when thye react that I didn't rinse well enough.
you probably need to rebath him and make sure you rinse well. I also have an anti itch rinse that I have used on them when they seem to be itchier than usual. |
Do you think it's Petsmart's fault that they didn't rinse thoroughly enough so I can ask them to re-bathe him? I just don't have the time to bathe him myself right now... |
o you had him groomed - I missed that part - you could try. |
DEFINITELY! esp if you just had it done and speak directly to the manager in grooming! I'd raise hell if they didn't. |
If they didnt rinse properly that will make him itch but sometimes it is just that the dog is sensitive to the shampoo.
I'd talk to your vet about products that are anti allergenic before you bath him again. Also some dogs just get itchy from being bathed full stop. Its because the water and shampoo changes their skin. Usually by washing off the natural oils I think. If his skin doesnt settle then your vet can proscribe cortisone tablets. I had to do that for my dalmation. It worked after just a couple of days thank goodness. Dalmo's are prone to eczema and dermatitis (sigh) so the vet has recommended only bathing him every 6 months. Luckily the short hair stays clean. And wiping him over with a wet flannel keeps him nice. I get eczema myself its so horribly itchy. I feel for poor Barney give him a hug from me. |
Even if he wasn't allergic to it before, allergies can develop seemingly overnight to things that they weren't allergic to before. Or, if they're using heated dryers, the dryness of the heat may have made his skin itchier.
Just tossing some extra ideas out... |
