So, I have a line on a sheepie girl in Lafayette, Indiana whose owner is willing to send her my way. I know there's a dog rescue underground railroad, and I would like any pointers as to how I could get some help getting this girl from Indiana to San Francisco, CA. Could be help with the trip from Lafayette to Chicago or Indianapolis, info on which is the best carrier to fly with, whether it's too cold out to fly right now, someone who could lend an airline approved crate (to be returned, of course), maybe there's a free flight through a dog rehome program, whatever you can think of that might be helpful is welcome!! And, thanks to my previous debacle of (almost) getting a pup from far away, I am counting no sheepdog as 'my pup' until it actually arrives. Thanks in advance for any help or any helpful pointers you might be able to provide. Cheers. VelcroVoodoo |

I've read on the forum of a group of truckers would help transport and I know many people on the forum will help co-ordinate a move. A local rescue group may be able to get the process moving for you. |
I hope you find a solution to your transport problem. I'm sure somebody will help you out .....keeping sheepie paws crossed for you. |
All of ours have flown to us via Northwestern over the past 5 years... we've never had a problem.
If you can't find free transport, they currently charge $340 to transport a dog weighing 51 to 70 pounds. About the only thing you'd need to watch is temperatures... too cold or too hot and they won't fly. NWA Restrictions- http://www.nwa.com/travel/animals/csrestrictions.html And returning a used crate via UPS is very expensive... it cost us around $100 to return a used crate to a breeder It would have been cheaper to simply send her a check for a new crate. |
I returned a used puppy crate via US mail - cost next to nothing. they just slap a lable on the crate and off it goes. |
Came across something that looked like just the sort of helpful hint I was looking for, thought I'd share. Pass it on...
