I was supposed to drive Oliver to his new foster family on Saturday. But earlier in the week, it got really really cold. And poor Oliver? He was living out doors. His owners had wanted better for him, but they lost their home to foreclosure and Oliver was staying temporarily with a neighbor. He'd gotten a bad ear infection that the neighbor was trying to treat, but he shortly began to associate the pain in his ears with the person treating him, so refused to go into her home. Hence, when the temperature dropped down below 20 degrees, Oliver was literally out in the cold! So we did what we thought best; and went to get Oliver early. We took him to the vet, who neutered him, brought him up to date with all his shots, and began treating his ear infection. Oliver boarded with the vet for the several days it took for his foster family to be ready to take him. He made several friends there, and seemed to be okay with the cats in the vet's care as well. I also took Oliver for a much needed bath. I'm sure many of you can imagine what your sheepie would look like after 2 weeks of living in the back yard! I'm happy to say, Oliver took his bath like a pro. I fussed over him in the dog wash for almost 2 hours. We washed and rinsed and washed and rinsed a second time, then slathered him with conditioner. While that set in, I trimmed the worst of the mats out of his coat. Oliver was so patient and relaxed; its obvious that this sweet boy is used to being looked after. So; here's who Oliver is: Oliver is a 10 year old pure-bred Old English Sheepdog with two gorgeous blue eyes. He's lived all 10 years with his owners, and is used to being an indoor dog with access to a yard. He likes the companionship of his people; being left alone is not Olivers idea of a "good day". Oliver also shared his home with a Lhasa Apso for all of his 10 years, and enjoys the companionship of other dogs. To be honest, when I picked Oliver up from his yard, I got the impression that this boy was just very, very lonely, and missed his humans and his dog companion. Oliver seems to know some basic commands, like sit and come. He's a bit tough on the leash, but it might have been excitement at all the new experiences. He'll definitely need a fenced in area; his owners said off leash he'll just run and run. Oliver does not act like a senior, at least not to what little I know about dogs. He's healthy and energetic, and loves to play. if you can help Oliver, or know someone that would make him a perfect fur-ever home, please contact the Old English Sheepdog Rescue Network of the South East. Here is a link to their website: http://oesrescuenetwork.org/ As soon as the photos I took of Oliver get approved, I will post them! |

Poor Oliver.... I hope he finds a forever home real soon ...and thank you for helping him and caring about this sweet boy!!! |
He really is a sweet boy. His foster family has 2 other sheepies right now; one is theirs and the other is another foster (ironically also named Oliver). He was so excited to have other dogs to play with when I dropped him off! And he seemed so thrilled to be in a house again...
I think Oliver is going to be just fine. He's such a great dog; I know someone will fall in love with him ( it was almost us, if only we were already in our new home...) and take him home fur-ever. Even his foster family was marveling at how gorgeous he was, and how healthy he seemed for his age. He could use a good comb through, and a refresher course on some of his commands, but otherwise he's just about perfect! |
Here are some photos of Oliver. I wish I could have gotten a clear shot of his lovely face; those blue eyes are to die for!

So you are the one. I was wondering who was helping us out with this guy. I am so glad that I already had a foster! My hubby can't give up the seniors when they come through our house. Thank you so much for all of your help. I have been getting your routine e-mail updates and they have been wonderful. I believe Oliver will make someone a great pet. |

Yup; its little ol' me! I'm glad to help out Fiona in a bind, especially if it means I can make a difference to a sweet-heart like Oliver! My work schedule can be very flexible; so keep me in mind if you need help again in the future! |
That's what it takes - team work! Great job OESRNSE volunteers!! |
Beaureguard's Mom wrote: That's what it takes - team work! Great job OESRNSE volunteers!! Well, we aren't done quite yet! We've gotten Oliver out of his tough situation, but we still need to find him a permanent family and a fur-ever home! If anyone would like to consider this darling boy, please contact the folks at OESRNSE.

Good luck Oliver! Thank you for all the hard work. |
Well; I got a report forwarded to me via the rescue network about Oliver.
His foster family says he's the easiest dog they've ever worked with. They had him over to the vet recently ( a follow up for his neuter, I think) and hte vet said he'd have put him at 5 years, not 10, based on his general health and his teeth. Oliver is on Petfinder now, though I'm not sure why he is listed as being in woodlawn, MS. Here is the link. |
CUTE! |
Hi,
thanks for helping Oliver! I put on Petfinder OLIVER IN GA in the title. J FYI Woodlawn MS is the default address of the rescue. It is supposed to be Woodlawn TN. It is a lot of trouble to change that (petfinder needs to do that part) Just FYI. Seniors are AWESOME (I have 2) He will make a lucky person/family very happy!!!! |

WOO HOO! Great news; apparently Oliver wrote to Santa, saying he wanted a fur-ever home for the holidays! And Oliver must have been a good boy this year, because Santa delivered! Oliver settled into his new family; complete with an OES brother to play with, for Christmas!!! |
HOORAY for Oliver!!!! |
I just love a happy ending congratulations Oliver |
Yay! - that is great news.
He seemed like too nice of a boy to not find a home. |
I am so happy for Oliver! |
From when I first posted here about Oliver, to today, was about 4 weeks. I'm so impressed with the folks that do our OES Rescue. It's wonderful that a "Senior" like Oliver; a 10 year old with the energy and health of a much younger dog, was placed so quickly. So a big round of applause to all the nice folks that are involved in rescue and fostering; you guys really make a tremendous difference! |
