Yesterday, I came home to find him twitching, and foaming at the mouth. We took him to the emergency room and they xrayed the lung and it is clear. The blood work all seems to suggest that the organs are functioning. The vet believes the cancer has spread to the CNS but that can only be confirmed by a CT or MRI which involves general anesthesia and we don't think this is a viable alternative for a 12.5 year old OES. They are working to stablize the seizures using phenobarbitol. He rear leg had gotten swolled this week like he was retaining some fluids. We noticed his front left leg is very stiff- and he is holding it in an ackward position as it is paralyzed, however, with some work we were able to move it. This front leg issue only occurred after the seizures. We tried stand him up in the vet but he was not interested. He seems to be uncomfortable. I don't know if he is in pain but he doesn't seem happy. He was not interested in his tennis ball which is his joy. He does have some new "bumps" - one on his head/neck, and one underneath his neck. They are similar to some that he had post cancer that burst but had no issues. The only other thing that is going on is that the blood work did show some elevated white blood cells and he has a fever. The vet said this could be due to the siezures, or cancer metastacizing. I just don't know what to do. I don't want him to suffer but I don't want to deny him anything that could help him either. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks |
