My 2 Beagles are shedding and I have white hair all over the house, and I mean LOTS. It has clogged my Vacume and its in the air vents, which I cleaned today. |

If they tolerate it, the slicker will help pull the undercoat - those pesky fluffy hairs even most smooth coated dogs have.
I like a brush with rubber fingers, really helps pull out the loose hairs. One is called ZoomGroom, made by the company that makes Kongs. There are also generic versions of this one too. I have a rubber slicker I recently got that works well too. It is made by u-groom. This is it on ebay- http://cgi.ebay.com/UGroom-Dog-Grooming ... .m20.l1116 Basically, any rubbery brush works well. The grooming gloves with rubbery nubs work well too. |
try the good ol love glove http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem-idProduct-FW01840.html , a rubber brush in a mitten, my staffy loves this, also the zoom groom http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/item--Kong-Zoom-Groom--konggroom or a shedding blade http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/pets-and-animals/bamboo-dog-adjustable-size-shedding-blade/ looks a bit like a hacksaw bent over but be very careful, although it get lots and lots of dead hair out, overuse will create scratches on the dogs skin. if you want to splash out a bit try a furminator www.furminator.com |
I have a slicker I use on Cheyenne the GSD and I love it. SHe sheds so much and it helps with removing all those fine hairs. |
I'd be careful about a slicker on a beagle, on any dog really... they can make tiny cuts like papercuts that sting and can get infected.... |
slicker on a beagle is no good, you could end giving them sore skin, try the rubber mitt and use it against the fur this will take out all the excess hair and the shedding should be very little if you do this on a regular basis.

On a Beagle, couldn't you get one of those Furminator thingies? |
