What brand of make up do you use

Do you go to the major stores and use top brands or do you use the store kinds like Revalon, L'Oreal, Mableine, Cover girl ect. You know what I mean.

I recently watched 2 programs on 2 differnt things. First was getting rid of OLD make-up and how bad it can be for you. The second was the use of high priced make-up. One program was on our news also.
Which do you think is better!!!????

Do you mix the brands ect.

I have my own thoughts. Now the newest brands are made from minerals.
I have to say that when my Daughters were selling different I did see a BIG difference in one.

But before I tell you what they were I really want to know what you use.

Thanks to all who will tell. :D

I am an Estee Launder / Clarins gal. I switch back and forth between seasons. I l like Estee in the summer and Clarins in the winter. The Clarins seems to be richer and creamier for winter dryness. I use the whole line of both brands--- moisturizers- foundations-eye creams- blush- eyeshadow ect... I use Bare Minerals sometimes for a quick " spackling". If I am running short on time, I can do my whole face in record time with the Bare Minerals. I like it-- but I am a creature of habit :)

My Sister uses Mac and my Mom uses some extreme stuff that she gets at the doctor that did her face lift.

In the end- -I think good genes, plenty of water, and avoiding the sun makes the most difference.

Did I tell you we are going to Florida in December, and I am baking up a storm in the tanning bed now.
Which is better will always be about preference. Though I think you can get what you pay for, many top make up artists use the cheapest stuff mixed in with high-priced make up. I don't think there's a 1 thing fits all. We're all different, have different needs as far as make-up, as well as expectations.

MALLY lightwand which I put under my eye liner and it totally brightens your eyes as well as makes your dark circles appear to disappear.

laura gellar bronzer/blush

i use bare escentuals mineral veil mixed with the powder

L'Oreal mascara b/c it's so moist as well as their concealer and liquid eye liner

philosophy primer which i put on under my makeup

urban decay primer potion under eye shadow

estee lauder eye shadow

and lastly, smashbox o-gloss

two thumbs up!
You bother with makeup with sweatpants?
This is so funny this topic should come up. This was the lunchtime conversation. I use a mixture too. But I work with someone that wont use anything but Mary Kay,,,,,, That makes my face break out in a big red rash!!!!!

what is a mally light wand????? i am always trying to find something to cover my dark circles!!

i use a mix of cheap and expensive.....the best mascara is covergirl but elizabeth arden comes in a close second.....

foundation is perscriptives

lipstick is perscriptives with a cheapy gloss over it...

i just mix it up....
Really, it just seems like white eye liner (but a little different) that i circle around my eye lightly or thickly...doesn't matter and it makes your eye pop. I saw it in my mil's house while i was staying there, and got addicted. her eyes always look awesome.

This amazing product is the one item you need to brighten eyes and make you look like you've had eight hours of sleep. The creamy, long-wearing pencil lets you lighten and brighten eyes instantly, anywhere. The extra-soft dabber on the other ends lets you highlight the eye with illuminating powder. It's like a lift of light... anytime.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IF7I4I (except i get mine from ebay)
Christie Harris. The foundation is a lighter version of theatre makeup, which I need for my ugly skin (too much sun years ago). It covers under eye circles.
They even offer instruction on how to use it.
Not cheap to buy, but a little bit goes a long way. They have a store in Dallas.

My mother and my daughter even use it.
I use Lauren Hutton's color pallet. Great for us older gals. None of that shiney irredesant stuff.
I've always been a Clinique girl
Um, I've got a little of everything. The most expensive thing I have is my Mac eyeshadow (got it on ebay, though!). Currently in my box are Avon, Mary Kay, Revlon, Rimmel, Ulta, Covergirl, Wet n Wild, New York Color, Mark, etc. I have decent skin, just a few spots, and I use a pretty light hand. I love my Avon eye liners, as well as my waterproof cheapie N.Y.C. My foundations are all some kind of mineral foundation at this point, but I use whatever I think matches my skintone, whether its liquid or powder, or whatever. And that's assuming I actually feel like messing with it..........
I have stupidly sensitive skin. I foudn that I can wear Este Lauder without it irritating my skin. But I use their face wash, lotion and everything else too.
I found Lauren Hutton recently and it is quick and easy to apply, perfect for older skin and subtle in appearance. I just tried her mascara, the one the coats each lash, I love it. My eyes are not irritated. I do use Avon for my moisturizer and eye cream.
I use Liz Arden foundation, I really like the cover. I love Bobbi Brown eye shado.....I am constantly looking for the perfect mascara.
I dont wear a lot now, I always use astral as a cleanser and moisturizer. Max Factor powder, think my eye shadow is either avon or revlon, avon mascara, pencil, and a sports lipstick that is fab as it stays on for hours. It is a stain though so you have to be careful how you put it on. My blusher is an expensive one and is almost gone so am trying an avon one when it comes!
I only wear mascara, L'Oreal's Double extension waterproof. You guys will probably freak about this- I apply it once a week which means I only need to clean it off completely once a week, I hate rubbing my eyes, I clean around the eye area carefully daily with a cotton bud, maybe touch up the edges- which takes about 2 minutes. It lasts just fine.

I am looking for a good concealer to cover thread veins around my nose, other than that I just can't be bothered
I have been thinking about getting false lashes, there is a place by me that do ones that last 6 weeks! Anyone ever tried them?

A few of the girls at work got them and they look really good. I can't speak to how they feel or any issues but they look fantastic.

you are so nawty leaving mascara on......when you get to my age you will have hardly any eye lashes left. I know I used to do the full 60s eye makeup, took 30 minutes. it sort of went
face powder all over eye area including lashes.
smoky brown shadow on eye lids
paint line of dark brown in eye socket
black liquid eye liner on top lid extending in a flick at end
paint black eye lashes on lower eye
3 coats of mascara at intervals, comb with clean mascara brush
finally brush eyebrows and apply eyebrow pencil

I used to take it off with vaseline but never managed to get it all off....oh those days were the best....
I don't do mascara and my eyelashes are a lot thinner than when I was younger. ;)
my eyelashes are on their third round of falling out....sigh.....

nothing like applying mascara and having more on the brush than your eyes........

i know saks does those fake lashes. i dont know how much they are, but i have heard that they last up to 4 weeks....i may go try it.....
Can we ban Darcy from the beauty tips? She's outshining us all
My skin is very sensitive so I wear Cover Girl. I've been with this brand foever. Periodically, I do try another brand, but always have skin problems, so stick with what works. Foundation I use is Aquaphor and sun protection lotion.
My mom, who is 78 has just GREAT skin. She has always used Ponds Cold Cream after washing her face with dove soap and her make up is always Este Lauder...

my entire life she has done this same routine and NO Joking~ She has wonderful skin. Few wrinkles, no age spots or blemishes, very very VERY soft skin.

Me, on the other hand... never followed her example and used anything and everything - never settling on any one product or line... and I don't have any where NEAR the great skin she does. *Sigh* I shoulda listened to my mom.

What????????? You are SO completely crazy! YOU dont have to wear makeup, i DO! Id rather be natural, but it will never happen....

I wish i didnt have to wear makeup......

I have only HALF of my eyelashes and i have 2 1/2 inches of the most rediculously curly hair that i have NO idea what to do with.....so, uh huh, dont go there!
RE armywife, That was what my mom used PONDS ect. She had the best looking skin that I can remember. All this new stuff and it does nothing like our parents used. I wish she had lived longer so I could have seen what she would have looked like older. She died at 48 in 1960.

I agree... I wish I had listened to her when she kept telling me. She still has the same routine... no changes. She has the softest skin-- mine is soo DRY.

I bet your mom's woulda been the same... beautiful and soft.
i use a mix too.

but i can only use maybalene mascara or i wanna scratch my eyes out
( i've tried everything the only other is dior show one but that i can't wear all day)

zoe
I'm a Clinique girl all the way!
My mom works for Estee Lauder so I have tons of EL stuff but I end up tossing a lot. I'm super sensitive and have allergies to a lot of products so I do a lot of trial and error. I don't have any one brand of anything.

Looking over my current makeup lineup, I have:

4 different foundations: 2 from Estee lauder, one from Shiseido and one from Bare Minerals (which I initially hated but someone gave me a recent sample and this time I liked it-- go figure.)

Concealer: Estee Lauder and Cargo

Loose powder: Shiseido and Estee Lauder

Eye makeup: Stila, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Dior, Cargo, Urban Decay and Shiseido

Cheeks: Estee Lauder, Benefit and Urban Decay

Lips: NOTHING, I'm allergic and it makes me so mad. I've tried everything "hypoallergenic," "mineral;" and "natural" and nothing works. It sucks because I miss lip color. :(

I've got tons of other stuff too because my mom gets so much for free-- not even just her brand, but others, too-- but that's only the stuff I regularly rotate through for use.
This is right up my alley. Before I started painting sheepdogs professionally, I was of all things, a makeup artist...hahaha. I worked behind the Estee' Lauder and Lancome` counters.... some things I learned about products and what's in them.....

SOME TRICKS:
I know some of the tricks of the trade from learning behind the scenes tricks and tactics. For starters, don't believe everything you hear at the makeup counters. Most of the women are trying to get their 3-5% commission from you so they will tell you anything you want to hear. They are ALL trained to look at your complexion while you are talking to them which is how they know right off of the bat how to help you.

Another fact: 90% of the makeup we use whether it be covergirl, or Clarins is made up of the EXACT same mica powder. Pressed powder, loose powder, eyeshadows, blush, eyeshadow sticks, it's ALL Mica Powder. Bare minerals is mica powder with "minerals" in it. Once fragrance and other secret ingredients are added then you differ in product. All of us women are paying for the packaging and the "name" brand. Believe it!!!

MAKEUP WITH FRAGRANCE:
Anything with a lot of fragrance is NOT good for the skin. Believe it or not, Although Lancome` has some of the best quality products on the market (eyeshadows, lipsticks) along with Clarins, there is a LOT of fragrance in their items, so people with sensitive skin, beware!!!
MAC products also have fragrance in them as well. Mac products are $$$$ but eyeliners, lipsticks, and cover alls are well worth the money if you have "normal" to oily skin.

FOUNDATION:
Prescriptives Brand is by far in my opinion far superior to any other foundation on the market. The girls go through weeks of training to learn how to match your skin EXACTLY, so no more lines on the face when applying foundation. It's also non-comenagenic, hypo-allergenic (wont clog pores or cause skin irritation on a long term basis of use).
Prescriptives concealer is also top notch in my book. It does what it's supposed to do. Lightens and looks natural and is NOT heavy.
Cover Girl liquid concealer is a great inexpensive product. Less is better, and pat it on under the eye instead of smearing it!!

GREAT ITEMS FOR LESS $$$:
Avon has some of the best eyeshadows out there as far as quality for the price. Great colors and textures and is comperable to MAC Makeup as far as coverage. L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara works great and does not get stuck in your lashes when you wash it out (therefore no more losing lashes).
Physician's formula is great for pressed powder, bronzers AND blushes without breaking the bank. Very natural coverage and does NOT clog pores.
Bare minerals - also a great product
MARK. (by avon), Avon, Physician's formula.

SKIN CARE:
Vitamin C Serum. Anywhere you can grab some, GRAB IT! It evens skin tone (if you have blotchy skin), keeps elastin in your skin and helps prevent sun damage. Use it on a daily basis and you WILL see results with your skin.
Clinque has wonderful skin care products HOWEVER, the astringent has massive amounts of alcohol in it (unless they recently changed their formula). Witch hazel works just as well if not better (dab with cotton ball only)!! It takes approx 27 minutes for your skin to "eat" or soak in whatever product you put on it. If you put extra product on your skin it wont work quicker!..
PONDS COLD CREAM****** awesome for the skin for long term use.
OIL OF OLAY - Comperable to Estee' Lauder, Clarins and Lancome`
and a lot less $$$$

BEWARE OF:
Retinol!!!! If any of you ladies use any retinol products make sure you wear moisturizer with SPF15 or more on a daily basis. I bet you didn't know it makes your skin more susceptible to sun damage and can cause thinning of the elastin in your skin....ironic, eh?? If not used properly it will cause more damage than using nothing at all.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY:
Revlon lipsticks. I have heard nothing but complaints about that lipstick so I tried it and well, it didn't really stay on me for long. Also, there is a lot of castor oil in the regular revlon lipsticks. Long last lipsticks make your lips appear chapped and dry after a few hours.
Maybeline blushes. The color you think you are buying sometimes turns to orange when applied to the skin. A lot of their blush bases have red/orange in them.
Smashbox cosmetics $$$$$$$$ when Avon's Mark. Makeup is half the price and better quality. You are paying 90% for the name on Smashbox products.

I love talking about makeup and skin care products, can you tell??? LOL!!

Ok...I seriously have to stop now......if any one ever wants to chat about skin care or makeup tips...feel free to email me privately.....I officially rambled....

Aveeno only and, even then, only the medicated one. Any other brand is irritating.

I agree, the Shiseido foundation is super thick! I only wear it for night wear. For day it is, by far, too costumey! It's such a smooth foundation though and it isn't irritating to my skin although it probably should be!

My whole life is about fragrance free and low fragrance so I read a LOT of labels. Luckily, for unknown reasons, my eye makeup doesn't have to be. so I get a little more leeway there.

For general skin care, I start with Estee Lauder's Idealist, Aveeno sensitive skin moisturizer (low fragrance, high spf) and use hylexin under the eyes. It actually does help with circles although I don't know if I'd pay the high price tag. I get that free, too so for that price, it's worth it!
I use a range of everything but my favourite Foundation has to be double wear from Estee Lauder!!

Everything is a mix of whatever I like at the time.
