I actually appreciate the link. I sent it to my husband as an idea for another gift for me. Not that I haven't gotten a nice gift already. |

Kerry - I let my subscription lapse. As much as I appreciate the nutritional and some of their medically related articles, I got tired of having to pick through the animal rights agenda coursing through the publication. I wish they could have stayed with the science and left the politicking to others. I hope you enjoy it - there's still much of value to be extracted from most of their articles. But please sift through everything you read with an extremely critical mind. Not that you don't normally Kristine |
I find my favorite things about WDJ are the articles about herbs and stuff I know nothing about and some of the product reviews-- not because I like their reviews, but they may not be products I had heard of otherwise. That's worth $20 in itself. |

Not that you don't normally Kristine I went back and checked and saw what you meant. apparently we have different approaches - I tend to ignore things that annoy me and apparently was editing what I choose to read from the sample issues I got - one of the advantages (?) of online reading. Now I am perplexed about supporting a publication I don't necessarily agree with politically. thanks - i think |

That's the dilemma. It's such a worthwhile publication at its core. Right now I'm probably overly sensitive to the sideline messages. Another time and another state of mind and perhaps I'd be able to ignore it and perhaps I will again some day. My holistic vet is VERY A/R, VERY anti-breeder (ironically some of the most health conscious breeders in the area go to him) and because of this VERY clueless when it comes to canine reproduction. If I tell him one of my bitches was just in season he all but blushes! But he is very, very good in certain areas. He also teaches and when he needs demo dogs he typically asks his breeder clients because our dogs' temperaments tend to be predictably good, Yet sitting in his waiting room reading some of the publications there makes my hair stand on end. But the bottom line is that he's a good vet and I'm a good client. And he really likes my dogs, even if they aren't politically correct So we overlook our differences in philosophy to our mutual benefit. Deep down I'm too pragmatic to be purely politically principaled I guess. Fortunately, my main vet is a breeder vet, her main area of interest is repro and her breed is OES. I'd be lost without her. As long as you can take the good the WDJ has to offer and mentally edit out the propaganda, why deprive yourself? Kristine |
