What size crate?

I would like to crate train as soon as I get my 10 week old puppy. He's being flown in to me so I'm sure he'll be arriving in a crate but I'm not sure if I should buy something larger for him right away or if most people wait to get bigger crates. Could anyone give me an idea what size they used to start crate training with? Thanks in advance.

I started training around the same time and I got the X large. They make a divider panel that you can move down as the puppy grows.

I never used it because I wanted her to have the room.
Some puppies will not respect that much space ( use the bathroom) at first, but mine has never used the bathroom while in her crate.

You could always start with the divider and remove it if she does good.

Thanks for such a quick and helpful reply! I'm doing my pre-puppy arrival shopping on PetEdge right now! :)
Just a note. My puppy is beingflown into me as well, so she will obviously be in a crate. However, my breeder requires that I UPS it back to her. I recommend that you check with your breeder on policies.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I should definitely check!
One more thing....... try to get a crate with 2 doors, it helps if you might have to move it around. Comes with side and front door.
Bye
Oh, when are y'all getting your dogs?

looks like we will all have pups the same age!! :D

My baby boy was born on December 25th (a Christmas pup!) so I'll be getting him at the end of February. I'm very excited!
Oh, I hate you. teehehe ;)

Mine is a month older. How cool to have a Christmas baby though. Will make Christmas that much better!!!

Is this your only animal?

you're posting pics right? :D

I've just posted one pic over in the Pictures forum under the thread titled "My new pup". I also have 1 cat (Sebastian) who is 6 years old and a real character. He's a momma's boy, but I think they'll get along well. In the past when he's been around dogs he could care less about them so I don't think there will be much animosity.

I'm still in the process of coming up with names for the puppy, it's sooo difficult without seeing his personality firsthand, so he might just be called "the puppy" until he comes home, lol.
hehehhe... how cool. He is soooooooo studly. :D :D

Glad to hear we have another cat person on this board.
