Hi Sue,
A completely free alternative is to go out to your garden and find a rock at least the size of your fist. Clean it thoroughly with soap in water and place in the middle of the bowl. When you put the food in the bowl spread it around the rock. This will slow her eating down significantly. Dudley was trying to set the new speed eating record and this has really slowed him down. More often than not now, he finishes at the same time as his much slower eating brother! Good luck! Kathie |
I ust wanted to point out that new research is indicating elevated bowls may increase the chance of bloat. |
I have the metal brake fast bowl for Bella. I have never seen a dog eat so fast. The brake fast bowl really did slow her down to about 3 minutes as opposed to maybe 10 seconds. The only down side is she gets a really dirty face from cramming her nose between the posts to get every drop. |
Thanks. I sometimes put a tin in the middle of her metal dish when her plastic dish hasn't come out of the dishwasher. Actually neither of them slow her down. I even got really big kibble but that didn't make a scrap of difference. Might investigate the brake fast bowl further.
The elevated food dish really confuses me. With my other 2 big dogs I didn't elevate them until the dogs were old and it looked uncomfortable for them to eat off the floor. With a dish on the floor Summer, if possible, eats even faster in case the yorkie skids over to help! |
