One thing I learned from my mom is her stuffing recipe. Cornbread stuffing with cashews! It is my favorite and can't imagine Thanksgiving without it. It is the first thing I begin preparing on Thanksgiving morning. The house is quite and everyone is still in bed. I go into the kitchen and begin cutting up the celery and onion and melting the butter and season it with the poultry seasoning. The aroma is the signal for me that the holiday season has begun. I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner every year and this year with my new kitchen, it will be even more fun! How about it, spill the beans and share with us what you will be cooking for the big day! |

What's your recipe? I love anything w/cashews (okay, except cashew chicken).
Despite barney and my husband ...I HAVE to have green bean casserole and broccoli-rice-cheese casserole. I JUST LOVE casseroles. In fact, I typically only fill my plate with this and a bun. I hate most other things (cranberry sauce and all creations should be banned from menus!). This year, I will just be making desserts and homemade crescents. Not sure what I'm making yet. This year my mom said she's making: chop chey, bulgogi, yaki mandu, bibim bap, kimchi, and fried tofu. We always have both korean and american. Friday, we do it all over again at my mil's house. |
Yaki.......yum.......one of the few things I miss from Korea. I always make homemade bread, deviled eggs, and green bean casserole. Even with hubby gone this year, I will make small batches of them for my son and I, along with the tiniest ham I've ever found, lol. |
bibim bap! Yummo! Our cafeteria here at City Hall is operated by a wonderful pair of Korean ladies and they make Bibim Bap about once a week, yesterday was the day!
I will see if I can write down my moms way of making stuffing and share it with you all. I also remember her making jello salads, I have never tried to duplicate them, but love them and remember them well. one with green jello, cottage cheese, cucumber and onion juice ???? I think... thinking of the flavors. I may be wrong but I will see if I can get that one from her too and maybe make it this year. |
Since it will just be me, hubby and non-solids-eating baby, I might just buy a pre-roasted turkey breast, or maybe just roast my own turkey breast instead of the whole thing.
But, here's what we'll have: Turkey gravy mashed potatoes stuffing (NOT in the bird, ewww) cranberry sauce Then, hubby HAS to have (and I don't know why) green bean casserole baked beans I'll probably also make some 'good' veggie side dish. We never have dessert because we're never hungry. My dad makes a really good pumpkin pie and homemade whipped cream. mmmm |

Thanksgiving for us is one big meal around lunch, so by the evening, there's plenty of room for dessert and/or turkey sandwiches!! |
OH oH oh , I forgot, I have to make a sweet potato pie. I don't like sweet potatoes, but this pie is sooooooo wonderful. Could it be from the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum that gets added in? Possibly, but I don't drink either. It's simply the perfect pie for me, nice and flavorful, but not overly sweet............is it Thanksgiving yet? |
I'm all about Thanksgiving food.
My b-day falls on or near it every year. My b-day cake choice is pumpkin pie! But, it has to be made with fresh pumpkins - none of that canned crap. I also am a pie purest - no whipped cream. Yuck, just ruins the perfect pie. 2nd choice is homemade pecan - the recipe on the karo syrup bottle. Has to be barely browned, so the filling is gooey and yummy. |

must have that recipe!! I love sweet potato pie and have a fondness for the Captain - my Morgan is named after him we always have turkey, two stuffings (whole wheat and white) and cauliflower and sweet potatoes and white mashed and butternut squash and cranberry relish (both homemade and canned) and usually something odd that I come up with closer to the holiday. then there are desserts and Natioanl Lampoons Christmas Vacations |
Turkey
Mashed Potatoes Gravy Oyster Dressing Plain Dressing Corn Cassarole Green Bean Cassarole Brussel Sprouts Creamed onions Sweet Potaotes Cranberry Salad and Sauce Deviled Eggs Homemade rolls Apple butter Pecan Pie Pumpkin Pie Assorted Cookies Apple cake Alka-Seltzer We always go to my Sisters for Thanksgiving, and each one of us has a dish to bring. Mom is in charge of desserts and rolls. From the looks of this list, we should be eating at a pig traugh --- or however you spell it. |

Could be. Mom added rum to our pumpking pies and I do the same. I don't drink rum, but I love it in our pies. |
Oh that all sounds so good |
I forgot broccoli and rice
We need an "I feel full" icon. |
I also do something called "pumpkin pie crunch". I made one this week and I'm still not happy, the very first one I made was KILLER and then I started to cut down on the butter it calls for and I think that is my problem. I will have to put the full cup of butter in it and see if it's better. For the recipe, you can google pumpkin pie crunch and find the recipe, it is amazing and so easy..... Just so you know, I hate pumpkin pie and I love this, must be the butter |
This is weird - but we have lasagna, salad, french bread some kind of veggie & cheesecake. |
Steph, that is weird! What do you guys have against Turkey???? |

I do think that's weird, but I like that meal better than any thanksgiving one, so maybe you guys are just smart! |
We do the turkey, stuffing, gravy dinner for Thanksgiving but because everyone has so many gatherings before Christmas day with turkey and ham we are doing lasagne, salad, garlic bread for Christmas Day. My husband, daughter and son-in-law requested it. I offered to do prime rib, pork roast etc..but all want the lasagne. Myself I could eat turkey and dressing everyday of the year but it's my husbands least favorite...our first Christmas 33 years ago I fried him pork chops, made rice and gravy with butter beans and the man was happy! I think the most important thing is family being together and making a meal everyone really enjoys. One year my daughters wanted fetticuni alfredo with shrimp...easiest Christmas dinner and everyone happy. |

Nothing against turkey - - but Stephen, Winston and I have pretty much always been by ourselves on Thanksgiving. Our families live far away and the traditional thanksgiving dinner is a lot of production for just the two of us. We both love lasagna and now it is tradition for us to have on it Thanksgiving. It is weird though - I don't tell too many people. |

I also love the Captain....PLEASE send the recipe |
