I emailed to see how long they expect it to go but I expect I won't hear back cause its so close to the event. bummer |

Seeing the infrequency of weight pulls, I would call the agility instructor and say you are going to miss the class.
You can always go to agility next week. Finding a weight pull event so close is home is a once a year occurance for me!!! |

Its my first class and I have to miss one in three weeks - and I signed puppy up for sunday (obedience) and don't want to give dan an excuse not to go!!!! I really have to go. the next weight pull events don't have novice classes. guess I'll have to bite the bullet and just get a harness...... I knew weekend classes were going to problematic |

I have the same problem with herding and am actually missing a seminar I'd love to attend in a couple of weeks because of it, but priorities are priorities. What can you do? Why don't some weight pulls offer novice? I've only been to ones offered by the Malamute club(s) and not a ton of them at that, but I seem to recall that all of them offered novice? Kristine |
Yeah, it is a dilemna. Sometimes you can never win.
This weekend I am missing Riley's flyball class, as I have Chewie in a rally trial.....I feel your pain!! |

What can you do? I know and Marley needs to get back to class more than Morgan needs this - especially with him not at 100% yet. Actually what is really problematic is this insane need to work for a living. I wish I had listended to my grandmother and married for money!!! Why don't some weight pulls offer novice? I've only been to ones offered by the Malamute club(s) and not a ton of them at that, but I seem to recall that all of them offered novice? I don't know - the ones I saw are snow pulls but I don't know if that would be the differnece I hope dawn weighs in as the resident expert in this activity. Kristine |
I would start out in novice with a wheeled pull over a snow pull.
It is just easier, without the the snow! Granted, we have done only one snow pull, but Chewie found it more frustrating. It was a warm. sunny day and the snow was sticky. Also, they never can pull as much weight in the snow, so there are less rounds of actual pulling. here is a link (OK w/ you Kristine?) to an article I wrote for Krisitine's website for performance OES - maybe that will help explain it better! http://www.performanceoes.com/WeightPull.html There is a snowpull picture in it, as well as a picture of Martha doing a novice pull with LeAnne. (On lead). At the bottom are some sites to check out. I will be out for the afternoon - Chewie has a pool date at the Paw. A real date, with his 2 year old friend Abby. Abby swims there weekly, and they are members of our therapy dog chapter too. Chewie LOVES Abby! I need to bathe Chewie before the show this weekend, so I thought we might as well have a little fun too! As a side note - Abby is one of those "reject" labradoodles. She ended up in a shelter, because she took after the lab side too much. Lucky for her, someone recognized what a great personality this puppy had, and they pulled her and enrolled her in a prison dog program. Lynn adopted her from the program, and the rest is history!! We are viewable at 1pm, if you are bored...... www.thepawmankato.com on the top of the home page, click on the public cameras, choose either of the pool cams. |

It is not too late. A little legal wrangling and voila you are living the good life. Just make sure the new husband is ooooooooooooold so you don't have to put up with him to long. |
I hate that I can't get your centers cameras at work.
see work is the root of all my problems |
I just got an email that the novice pull won't start until around 2 so I can get there in plenty of time - so cool - I hope I can get someone to snap a few photos. |
I'm glad you can go.
About that work thing, I know what you mean. It really gets in the way of things you REALLY want to do. |
yay!
I'm glad you get to do both. Who is sponsoring the pull? |
Okay we got to the weight pull just before the novices started. we borrowed a harness and registered (paid our $5).
Morgan successfully pulled about 6 times (up to 340lbs.) he certainly seemed to like it and his incomplete pull was because I kept my hand on his collar the last time. i am not sure if he would have gone many more times and I was tired myself so ending on an easy note was not a bad thing. Dawn - some older guy offerred me a very nice fuly pdde harness for $5. Unfortunately it wasn't long enough for my big boy. He said he'll bring longer ones to the next pull in January. Hopefully I can get nice used ones for both Morgan and Beowulf at some very nice prices!! ALl in all it was a good time and the people running the pull said Morgan was a nice working dog. considering how sick he has been and how little we have done the last two months it was nice to see him up and havingsome fun. It was the IWPA (?) that sponsored the event. |
Cool!!!
Way to go Morgan! Yes, IWPA is one of the groups. They haven't had a pull near us. Did you get to watch to regular classes at all?? |
I literally walked up as the last dog was finishing his/her pull. if I had intended to make it at the end I could not have done better - of course I had rushed to try to see some of it and was a little disappointed - but very happy with Morgan's acceptance that I could put a strange knew halter on him and hook him up to a weagon and tell him to pull. He is a fairly unflappable dog. |
What a good boy!!!
So I suppose you didn't get any pictures either???? |
only of a norfork terrier whose harness must of weighed more tha he did!! |
