It seemed to be a recording that said it was the IRS calling, and that their call needed to be returned before the close of business today. They left an 800 number and a "case" number. I'm thinking this is a scam of some sort. I believe if it was the IRS they would have contacted us by mail, or the person calling would have referred to our names, and it would have been a "live" person, not a recording...programed to wait for voicemail to answer. Whatcha think? |

I'd call the IRS office nearest you and ask them. if indeed they do not (and I think you are right) call people regarding cases, they can tell you that and they should be made aware of the scam. otoh, you can supply your phone number on your forms and tha does imply they may call you. |

There's the legitimate IRS phone number to inquire about it at the bottom of the page. I would not return the call. |
Thanks. When I get home from work, and can right down the phone number that was left, I will report it to the IRS. How ballsie for people to scam using the IRS name!!!! |
Lol. The IRS never calls you. They make you call them and sit on hold for hours. All their fun would be ruined by doing it the other way around!
Seriously though, they DO contact you by mail if there's a real issue. |
They do not call you. They will send a letter first, if no reply they send it registered so you have to sign. Beleave me !!! I am dealing with them now. |
I'd call them back and jack with them! String them along but obviously don't give them any info. Keep asking why they are calling and demand to talk to the supervisor....... |
any update? |
Naw...I just sort of let it go. I know it was not the IRS...so why waste my time and sanity! |
