http://www.sheepadoodle.ca/ I wonder where she purchased the OES from and if the breeder is aware of what she is doing. Sure I am aware all of us reputable breeders send our pups to their new homes on non-breeding contracts but in this case, the pups can't be registered anyways! I know if I ever found out one of mine were being used I have a seperate contract and I can legally go after them. |

you know I really repected the work that went into creating the labradoodle - it was serious and whether you agree a new breed was or wasn't needed, the australian program to develop it was scientific and purposeful.
this - this is just wrong. phrase like - we believe this is what will occur. MG she even uses an apricot poodle - that's like - hey these two are both dogs so...... But as a breeder - how would you know? |
how did "mutts" become "hybrids"....?
for lunch today I had a creme d'peanut pate and pressed gelatinous grape compote spread sumptuously over light and fluffy hearth baked loaf. OR i had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I'd probably pay $2.50 for a P,B &J at a diner, and $15 for the other nonsense at a fancy restaurant. You could get your Sheepdog/Poodle mutt off Petfinder ( i think there even is one there now) for a nominal adoption fee. OR you can get the hybrid at the higher "breeders" rates... |
One of the worst aspects of this is that these "breeders" are charging $1000 for a puppy with no possible heath certs. Their dams and sires are not champions, and it's highly unlikely they're even from exceptional stock as their breeders would not agree to allow this breeding. So off the bat they're starting with lesser examples of their respected breeds with higher likelihoods of genetic diseases/disorders.
And there are people willing to pay these breeders and perpetuate this practice. Such a shame. |

Yes, there are, and I agree, it is a shame. |

I absolutely agree. Essentially, all breeds are "hybrids" of others since most modern breeds evolved out of other breeds but a new breed is not created from a poodle and some dude's OES. That is what you call a mutt. |

Oh great.......husband saw that now when I ask him what he wants for lunch, I'm afraid this is what I'm going to hear |
FYI Amber, after I got your e mail I sent a polite note inquiring about health testing, so far no reply |
I'm missing the point of the cross. Do they want a coat that is MORE difficult to groom. |

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! |
Give them a fancy name and charge mega prices for them, there just still mongrels.
When will people stop paying big money and encouraging this happening. What happened to just the Mutt? Now they have a fancy name and cost more then pure breeds that have been health tested, have a long history of parentage and these unknowns with a questionable background and no health testing are so in fashion it is ridiculous. Sheepadoodle Pugadoodle Cavadoodle Goldendoodle Cockadoodle squillions and squillions of doodles and so on and so on, there still just mongrels. Anything with Doodle on the end seems to create a new breed that they can charge a ridiculous amount for. We had an article here on the amount of poodle crosses that ended up in shelters due to bad temperament or health problems, it is a real problem here and I hope the so called fad diminishes soon and people just start to realise that they are just mongrels and stop paying big bucks for them The only one I support was the Labradoodle as that was created with selective breeding and generations of health testing for Blind people that are allergic to dog hair. Been generations of developing the breed here to assist those in need. Generations of health testing and selective breeding before the first Labradoodles were trained for guide dogs. They keep that exclusive any others here is Australia that are bred by who ever then they also are just mongrels also. |
I like how it has progressed from "Hybrid" to "mutt" to "mongrel". I'm not even sure how to fit that into my Peanut butter and jelly sandwich equation. |

Well in defense of the word....I believe mongrel has a different connotation here in the US than it does in Australia. |

I think what a lot of people also do not realize is that the Australian labradoodle is not just a poodle and a labrador either. It's been generations and generations of careful breeding with the parent breeds including: Poodle (Standard, Miniature, Toy) Labrador Retriever Irish Water Spaniel Curly Coat Retriever American Cocker Spaniel English Cocker Spaniel That's a lot of dogs to get the dogs that they have today. |
