I looked up my OES books,I have had 6 OES and only one had blue eyes, the others had brown or ,most commonly, one brown one blue, and all were healthy and bright and clever and wonderful,I think the blue eye thing is just one of the variations.I cant find any mention of health problems with blue eyeds. But I may be wrong, isnt there a thing with cats if they have blue eyes? |
It's not the two blue eyes that cause health problems it is if they come with Lack of Pigment , that can be associated with a higher risk of deafness in the dog.
The standard reads - Dark or Wall eyes preferred, two blue eyes acceptable. That is why two blues are accepted but not overly encouraged as there is less chance of good pigmentation if you are breeding solely for 2 blue eyes in the breed which can lead to less chances of good pigmentation and problems with a higher risk of producing deafness in OES. |
Hmmm.how would you know a sheepie was deaf?LOL! |

It's called BAER testing... http://www.lsu.edu/deafness/baerexpl.htm Oh, you mean the selective hearing they all seem to get periodically??? A BAER test can detect the difference AND will tell you if a dog is unilaterally deaf, which can also be difficult to differentiate in many dogs. Nice explanation on the eye color, Lisa. Kristine |
