I begged and the facility refused to let me see the dog. I was just asking for more details about him because I wanted to know if he was in fact a sheepie. I knew he was not a shetland sheepdog. Again, I begged to see the dog and finally someone said that I could walk down the hallway where the strays/lost dogs were located and if I could see him, fine but if I couldn't...oh well. I looked at him and my heart broke. A girl was walking past and I started asking her questions about him. She said that he was very fearful, skiddish and tried to bite. I asked if she could take a picture of him for me (with my phone) and she did. I was about 99% sure he was a sheepie. The lady at AC&C said that he is not adoptable yet and must pass his evaluation before anyone can even consider adopting him. His eval was Tuesday. As soon as I got home Monday evening, I emailed the rescue to get their opinion once they saw the picture. I also explained that he has a docked tail, he is grey and white, floppy ears, tall long lets, big black nose and brown eyes. I know my description wasn't the show quality sheepdog explanation but like I said, I was pretty positive he was a sheepie. Tuesday rolled around and I called AC&C, I was connected with their rescue/foster coordinator. I begged and pleaded with her to allow the rescue to take the dog. The rescue does amazing things with doggies that need a lot of work. The coordinator had to give me a call back to let me know if the sheepie passed the eval. Great news, he passed! I asked several questions about him and the AC&C said that he is severly matted (duh!) and has skin problems (duh again! just look at him) and that he had to be neutered. All the tests were given to assess his health and he was negative for everything except kennel cough. The AC&C put him on meds and put him in quarantine. They also groomed him. I knew he would feel 1000x better after the grooming. I stopped by AC&C on Wednesday to check out my new buddy and he was poorly groomed but at least the mats were gone and he was naked! This fearful skiddish biting baby turned over a new leaf. He found that he loves being a nudist and getting rid of his nasty coat is a new found freedom! I walked up to the cage and he immediately walked up to me. He was dying for me to pet him. A noise came from the other end of the cage and he had to check it out. I then squatted down to talk to him and he ran to my side of the cage likehe was dying for some attention. I know I am rambling but the story hasn't quite ended yet. I am going on Saturday morning to get him out of prison. I have another woman with the rescue who is going to transport him to South Florida. The rescue is anxious for him to arrive. Our little buddy has been named Findley because it means, white headed warrior or courageous! He will survive. He will be given a second chance. I can't wait to hear about his future! I'll try to upload the pictures so you can see him! |

God bless you! Who knows what might have happened to this poor guy if you hadn't been so persistent. Thank you! |

Ditto that! But also give thanks to that shelter, because in some shelters a large, scared, matted dog with kennel cough wouldn't be given a chance, period. Lucky boy! Please keep us posted. Kristine |
Good news! Thanks for keeping up with this boy!! |
Well to update you about "Findley." Findley is his new name. I picked him up on Saturday morning and he was transported to down south. As soon as we walked out of AC&C he immediately got a spring in his step. He was so excited. THe car and crate that he was transported in was very scary at first but he quickly gained trust in the whole situation. As soon as he arrived at the rescue, Candace looked him over and said he is a sweet boy! Of course! She said she would pet his head and he would just rest his head in her hand and close his eyes. He was tired from the last week of chaos and he was realizing that he was safe and in great hands. Of course every good story has a few speed bumps. Candace was looking him over and she noticed that his paws and ears were in terrible shape but he also had s tumor on his jaw. She doesn't think the tumor is going to be a major worry but of course it will be removed. I was told that I would be updated frequently! I'm so happy that he is in a great place, it couldn't be better! |
I'm going to try to post the pictures but I'm not sure if it will work.
Here's the one that AC&C posted (remember they listed this pic as a "shetland sheepdog" I took this picture when I first saw him All shaved down and a little happer although still scared because he was still at AC&C Before he got shaved, you couldn't even tell that he was grey and white! His paws (the pads) were in horrible condition. |
