Poor Poppy!

Yesterday Poppy & Sweetpea were sitting in my porch, watching the world go by as usual when the postman came. Often they are out in the garden and their barks alert me to the fact the post is here and I collect it at the gate from the postman. Yesterday I was busy sewing so I thought - he can just put it in the box today and I'll look at it later. Poppy thought differently. She was going soooo crazy barking at him that she knocked over the pot that stands in the porch that had an umberella drying in it which freaked her out so much she jumped straight through the plate glass panel beside my inner porch door.

I managed to get Sweetpea out of the way and in her crate then checked Poppy all over and could find just one cut on the back of her front leg which was bleeding but not too badly (Thank goodness for all that hair - I guess it acted like a cushion) I put her in her crate while I cleared up all the glass and then checked her over again. The bleeding had almost stopped so I rang the vet who wanted to check her out. When he shaved the area it looked much worse than I'd thought and she needed 4 staples in the cut - Poor Poppy! Antibiotics and pain killers too bless her. Last night when I was giving her a cuddle I found another cut on her back but that seems much smaller thank goodness.

I keep thinking of just how bad it could have been and I'm grateful she carried on through the panel. I think if she'd decided to pull back half way through it could have been much worse. We go back to the vets on Monday to see how its coming along and again in 10 days to remove the staples.

She's getting lots of fuss and cuddles and enjoying her birthday bones I made her on Tuesday. Sweetpea doesn't understand the meaning of letting Poppy rest to let the wound heal though!

Poor poppy. Lots of sheepie hugs and kisses for her. :ghug:
Oh my goodness! Poor Poppy!! :( glass must be really difficult to find in a sheepies fur, I'm glad the vet had a good look, don't forget to mention the other cut next time too in case there is something stuck in there :?

Ru sends lots of hugs and kisses to his girlfriend
What a crazy girl!
I'm glad she is basically ok, and the cut heals up fine.
I bet the crash and broken glass about gave you a heart attack!
I am happy to hear that Poppy is ok.....How many new grey hairs does Mum have now???????
Animals and glass, not a good combo. Thank you for being worried enough to take Poppy to the vet. I hope she learned her lesson, but may I suggest Plexiglass for the window? You call it something else in the UK.
Oh no! Poor Poppy! I'm glad she's recovering.
Oh my goodness gracious!! Bless your heart - you must've been frightened half to death! Poor Poppy. I'm glad she was okay, but gosh, what a scare!!

However, I have to mention what a lovely picture the first part of your narrative makes. I love to read your writing style. :D

I have to say for the time being (My husband is away and my DIY skills are somewhat lacking!) I have two lovely layers of extra thick cardboard gaffer taped to both sides of the panel! I'm glad it was the inner doors of the porch or I would have to call in the experts as I expect an intruder could easily remove the tape! This was an old pane of un-reinforced glass from when the house was built in the 1960's but will be replaced with something much stronger and Poppy proof!

Thanks for all your concern. Poppy seems completely fine today but quite bemused with all the extra cuddles she gets every time I pass her! I've found a great way to get her to take her tablets though! I've got some of those - what I refer to as 'plastic' cheese slices (for hamburgers) and she loves them - even with a tablet sneakily folded inside the cheese!
OMG - Poor Poppy, glad to hear she is ok though.

Big hugs to her from George
Poor Poppy is right!

I'm glad the damages to both animal and mineral were minimal.
Summer says poor Poppy she needs to be careful. I am so glad it wasnt worse could have been really nasty. My 2 wait quietly by the front door for the postman and then bark to scare him away.
poor poppers! hope she feels better!

that american cheese is sticky enough for them not to sneak the pill out...
Geez, that's terrible. She must have been really riled up. I hope she recovers quickly.
Oh! NO karen!!! Poor poppy!!! So glad shes OK! Give her big hugs from us!!
Poor girl :( . And poor Mom :(
Awe....Poor Poppy ...Hope she feels better
from the book ' Blake... a Bad Dog's Diary '

" that postman keeps pushing his paper crap into our den. I wish the owner would block up the hole in the front door I'm sure it just encourages him."

"more paper rubbish from the postman. I have to hand it to him he is persistant."
