They are about the ugliest things ever. I hate them. People are going to look at pictures of themselves wearing those atrocities years from now and think, "Why did I think those were attractive?" "Why did I think it was fashionable for my feet to look like Bugs Bunny with a boot-like top?"
I think there's a lot better looking warm boots that are so much more attractive than Uggs (which I always feel should be spelled Ugh, because that's the noise I make when I see them). Hit up DSW, they have rows upon rows of boots. Not all are winter but they quite a few. |

I can't even go into those stores I have asthma and the accumulated fumes from the non leather shoes just send me into spasms! I agree they are ugly - but I am looking for warmth and comfort - hey walking the dogs they don't really care how I look!! I go from an attached garage to underground parking so work is not the issue - walking 4 dogs, now that's an issue |
I seem to remember Deb buying some last year and I think Lisa said she has some too. They both raved about their warmth and comfort. So much so, that I tried some on a few weeks ago. I agree that they are ugly, but they are warm and comfortable. I did not buy them though. We just don't get enough truly cold weather here to make them worth the purchase. |
Greetings from Rochester! I love uggs:) You have to get used to the style.
they're so comfortable and durable. I still have my uggs from 6 years ago and theyre still good shape. They've also designed something like "sweater boots" called the Cardy which are super cute too but theyre not waterproofed. on the days I have to waddle through 5 feets of snow - I wear my Hunters Wellies. Theyre lightweight and easy to wear... You can purchase different liners to keep your feet warm. The north face greenlander boots which are comfortable too... I like the fact it has a zipper on the side. The only con I have is that theyre kind of heavy and clunky. http://www.rei.com/pwr/product-reviews/ ... men-s.html most of the time I just wear my uggs and hunters:) did u look at zappos? |
I think uggs have become more of a fashion statement; I don't really know if they are practical or not. Growing up we used to get shearling lined LL Bean boots for the winters. Why not check the LL Bean Website...?
What about one of the shoe shopping ones? i love Zappos for thier really easy return policy; onlineshoes.com also. |
Kerry; what size do you wear? I have an extra pair of fleecy lined ankle height wet weather boots. I could send you the extra if they were the right size, and you liked them.
Its a long story why I have 2 pairs.... |
i like these
http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/8573 ... Women.html and these http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/8573 ... Women.html |
I'm with Darcy on the second pair. Very cool! |
I bought a pair of Sorel boots at Dicks Sporting Goods
two years ago, and they are still warm as toast. http://www.sorel.com/Subcategory.aspx?top=2 As for style, when you have over a foot of snow and driving winds somehow making a fashion statement just is not my top priority. |
Newer Uggs are more fashionable, especially the taller shank (leg) models. Yeah, Zappos is a good place to search.
I don't care for the suede for outside use.....or much for indoor unless you can guarantee no stains. Haven't found a suede cleaner yet that will get out everything. For me and my LLBeans, that's OK. They aren't worn in public. I prefer a lace up outdoor boot, like what Darcy is looking at so I can vary the sock weights. I had some LandsEnd for years.......dang things wouldn't wear out. Mine were bright red, just loved them. |

I believe that statement is one that says "I have zero style and don't much care." It's one of those weird trends that only teen girls and moms seem to like. |
Hey I live in Uggs in Winter, there an Aussie Icon
That and traky daks for winter warmth and comfort, Yeah I am a daggy mom Great boots is those uggs in winter and come in all sorts of nice styles now compared to the slipper look of years gone by. I have no problems wearing them out on a cold winters night, I must be getting older, comfort and warm tootsies is more important then a fashion icon |
I have or have had the Kamics, Sorels and the like. The ones with the rubbery bottoms and leather tops are best. Also, make sure you get ones with removable liners. Otherwise they get damp and you can't dry them properly. That is the #1 reason for cold feet - the boots being damp or wet inside.
I have several pairs of varying warmth rating for all the winter sports! |
I get all my boots from Sierra Trading Post, have been for years. Asolo hiking/everyday wear boots, and I just got a pair of Columbia Bugaboo2 (sp?), a wet weather boot for taking Obe on walks through the snow this winter. |
Darcy and Shon; you are both the devil. I just spent three hours on that Sierra Trading Post sight, and got TWO pairs of boots I didn't really need, some fleece pants I'm sure I could have made, and fuzzy socks.
thank you. |
I just had my 14 eyelet DMs delivered, they fit great already, not much 'wearing in' to be done. Great with thick socks for warmth, waterproof and hard wearing. Can't beat 'em. You can order from the Dr Martens USA site
example here |

I have uggs. And, no, I don't think they are attractive, but they are wonderful. Last year we had more snow than I can ever recall, and they absolutely saved my feet. I love my uggs...I just can't look at them. If you get them, remember, as crazy as it sounds, you wear them WITHOUT socks. I promise you feetsies will cozy! |

I'm with you bgirl.nemisis; I love my Dr. Martens. I have several pairs; a couple of which I got from ebay. They wear so well. I have "rough and ready' wear for hiking and bad weather, and I have a couple of "dress pair" too. |

I got a pair of hiking shoes (I'm still fantasizing of going tot he woods for a week with the dogs) and a pair of slip on waterproof , insulated "bootie" stlye slipper moccasin thingies link. I always take the dogs out in my slippers, and they just aren't practical for it.... |
Those Hudson boots are cute. I'm thinking that I may have to get a new pair of boots too. Now I just have to decide to go with the black ones I like or the pair that Darcy linked to. Oh I hate decisions! Maybe I should ask my sister to help me decide.... |
I love Uggs. I think they're so comfie, although I couldn't wear them last year because my legs got too fat from being pregnant
I'm going to have to look up Darcy's site--I was just looking for boots (although fancy boots, not warm boots ) |
hey steph, if you find a pair of high heeled red/burgandy boots (knee high) let me know.....i cant find just a simple sexy red boot! |

Hey, I wanted to officially retract my comment about hating all Ugg boots. Upon further research for my own winter boots, I shall concur with Susan that some of the newer styles aren't bad at all and some actually very cute. Turns out I only hate the classic kind (a lot).
Very wearable Uggs More wearable than classic style These look good for snow I stand corrected. |

I think most Ugg's are Ugg-ly but have a pair of their Brookfield Tall boots in black. Love 'em!
It's all about comfort and mobility rather than fashion for me! |
I agree with Maggie... or I DID until i did a thorough once over on their website. I found like a dozen things that I'd gladly own and wear! While I'm still not a fan of that clunky looking boot that is their mascot, alot of their other styles, are really nice!
Now i need to make alot more money, so I can afford some!!! |
Gee,I didnt know Uggs were ugly,I have been wearing them for about 38 years.I do buy a new pair every winter but my favs are the basic ones,in pink of course,or lace up ones in black, but a word of warning.
You have to keep them away from sheepies when not wearing them.Every OES I have ever had has either stolen or tried to steal my uggs.My first OES Angie, slept with one boot all her life,I just extracted it from under her when I needed to wear them.It must be the sheepskin thing,or maybe they just smell delicious to dogs. My feet would have frozen off decades ago without uggs. They do come all fancy now,a friend in UK asked me to let her send me 700 pounds about 2 years ago to buy her some fancy brand uggs, but it turned out they were made here but not sold here, they were made for the London upper crust market, lol. |
