but I thought someone might have a relevant web or email link for someone who does Wire-haired Pointing Griffon rescue. In the course of my tireless hunt for a sheepie, I also look in corollary breeds and I keep coming across WP Griffons that are mislabeled as other breeds or mixes. Since they're rare, I thought it would be better to be able to point breed specific rescuers to these mislabeled pups. Yes, I've looked online, but I'm fairly certain someone here has the relevant info handy. Thanks!! |

AKC lists this as the breed specific rescue -
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association Homer Mobley, 8192 Crooked Run Road,Basye, VA 22810, (540) 856-8584, griffs3@shentel.net Also - you might be seeing German Wirehaired Pointers. They look similar and are much more common that the WPG's. Good luck, and I'm sure the dogs would thank you for advocating for them. I grew up with Brittany's and dogs in the sporting group with field trials and hunt tests. They are great dogs! |
Thanks so much got sheep!!!
Yes, I realize the similarity. The dogs I'm seeing are clearly WPGs... though of course I'm going on one-off photos. Thanks for mentioning it, though. |
What fine looking dogs! Harry has the wire hair and I love it after sheepdogs and Pyr brushing. He doesn't mat, he doesn't tangle. The undercoat is dense but comes out easily with brushing. Two or three complete brushings and it's out!
So whatever Harry is, maybe a WHPG x Border., I call him my perfect dog.....he just smiles and wags his tail. Yes, he's black and white and shaggy......listed as an OES at the shetler, HA! |
I've met a couple that looked and acted so much like a german wirehaired pointer and old english sheepdog cross that I actually asked if that's what they were.
btw, sheepieboss, luv! your bubbleboots pics. hehehe |
