Sadly he's starting tohave a very difficult time getting up from a laying position. Last night I woke up about 1:30 to the terrible sound of him scratching at the linoleum in the kitchen trying to get up. I rushed in and he was totally unable to get his back legs to move. We lifted him up and after a moment of holding his weight up for him he was able to bear weight and stiffly walk across the floor. I was devastated. I'm going to try to block him in the bedroom at night, it's easier for him to get up and down from the carpeted floor plus he sleeps in his bed in the bedroom and not the hard floor. We have been on an intense regimine of supplements; cosequine, derm caps and vitamins and I thought he was doing better but last night was the worst ever. |

poor sweet tasker! the ramp looks fanastic....doug has been one busy boy!!! yeah, id try to do the same thing....keep him on carpet....
im sorry ginny |
I am so sorry to hear about Tasker's situation. You are probably right that getting more traction on the carpet then tile. I am sure Tasker will appreciate the ramps you've added to the house...leaves him a little more independant.
Tasker! |
Aw, it's like a little wheelchair ramp. Now if he ever needs wheels, too, he's all set! |
Doug and I decided it was a good investment for when WE are old and in a wheelchair . My only concern is what will happen when it snows, looks a bit like a ski slope!!!
NEXT YEAR (no money this year) I want to put a composite railing up. |
HA HA... I hope it snows and you can't tell where the ramp is. That would be funny to watch when someone dips into the snow.
I feel horrible that Tasker is in pain What do you do when pets are like that? Do they just have to cope when medicine doesn't work as much? I am not looking forward to going through any of that. Poor Tasker! *big hugs* |
That is one great Dad Tasker has!!
Sorry to hear about Tasker's problems. Please give him a hugs and kiss from me! |
hey, why isnt doug working without his shirt on??????
come on...we want to see THOSE pictures |
Aww, Ginny. The ramp looks great, but I sure do feel for what you've started going through with Tasker. Sounds WAY too familiar.
You're right - carpeting will be better for him, both for initially getting up and then for traction to walk safely on. We had throw rugs everywhere for Drez and it got to the point that if she came to the end of a throw rug and couldn't reach the beginning of the next one, she would just stand there. Broke my heart. |
Aww poor Tasker, but those ramps look really great! |
Poor Tasker. I know how hard it is. Max does the same thing on slippery floors. It breaks your heart to see it.
The ramp looks great. Besides helping Tasker-- your Grandbaby will LOVE riding a big wheel down that ramp |
I'm sorry about Tasker. It is sooo sad. I insisted the older dog sleep on carpet, even a throw rug with latex backing. That helped for awhile.....
Ramp looks great. We need three here for the uprights.......send Doug. Oh, forgot we need two for inside as well.......... |
has tasker tried out his new ramp yet? |
Yup, he is quite pleased with it!! (Ty likes it too ) |
What a beautiful ramp! It is great that you and Doug were able to provide that for him. |
Ginny, you might be able to get a handful of rubber-back throw rugs from Walmart or some such for 7 or 10 bux a piece; they REALLY helped Jake have some independence and mobility around the house. |
Thanks Ron, we are going to stop tomorrow after work and pick up some rubber backed runners.
Funny thing is after scaring me to death last night, tonight he's bouncing around chasing Ty like he is Two again. |
We throw a bunch of pillows on the floor for Ben to lay on. He loves the softness and gets up better than if he is laying on the carpet, which is way better than the tile. And I use a warming blanket for him in the winter that seems to helps too. |
You mean like an electric blanket? |
Ginny doug has done an awesome job on the ramp. Be interesting to see if it is going to be a ski run in winter
Doug needs to holiday downunder, we need that for Kelsey and up at the farm. Tell doug the tradies here wear no top, stubbies (Shorts) and Blundstones (Leather steel capped work boots) We expect doug to work according to the dress code here Actually I have a lift harness that someone is lending me to try next week with her and see how we go there. SUCKS they have to get old |
I find I end up recommending these a lot:
www.flor.com The tiles are all rubber backed and if you want them to form bigger pieces they stick to each other, not the floor. Bear has a fear of certain types of flooring (we have no idea why, he's never fallen and it just happened seemingly out of the blue) so we have these throughout the house so he can jump from "island to island" without touching the floor. I wish I had gotten then for Lucy when she needed them. I also am really appreciating them with Owen. He peed on one a couple of times so rather than worry abut scrubbing, I just pulled it out and replaced. Rug is as good as new! |
OK OK OK for all you chest hungry women I'll TRY to get Doug to make a calender pose topless......... perhaps he could make the next issue of "Men of Speedsville"
I have a MAJOR floor dilema. I had planned to replace my living room and dining room with Konetco flooring this fall (floating alminate) but I don't thnk Tasker could survive it. I MUST pull up the dining room carpet, I have struggled with Ty for the last two years with Marking behavior and have about decided the only solution for him is a belly band when not supervised. The rug is a mess and needs replacing. But I really don't want to put carpet down because of Ty. Tasker on the other hand needs carpet. |
The ramp looks great although I'm sorry you need it . What we did for Beau was go to Home Depot and get runners, they come on a spool and you can get them cut to whatever length you want. I put rubber backing under them so they would stay in place better. I also bought telescoping ramps for the trucks, better than lifting him in for trips to the vet. |
