Am I crazy...?

I'm grooming the girls for their grooming day on Tuesday. I feel like a crazy lady. I'm de-matting them, brushing out as many tangles as i can, before dropping them off to be groomed. Does anyone else do this, or am I the only paranoid sheepie mommy that does this?

No you are not crazy I do it too.

My husband has given up asking why I groom George ready to take him to the groomers. :?

Of course, it's like brushing your teeth right before a cleaning.....want to make sure everything is as clean as possible before someone else sees into your life.
Nah, you are just a sheepie parent. Crazy, yes but not more or less than the rest of us. :D
me too!!!!!!!!!
:)
In this case you are not stupid. You know how groomers want to shave if they find too many mats.
my groomer is really good; she won't shave mats. We've talked about it, and she has strict orders to shave nothing without my permission. She just grooms around whatever she can't get out.

I'm hoping that all my de-matting efforts will desensitize the girls to the experience, and make it easier for a groomer to do it. Will this happen over time? Anyone have any luck with that? I just know that I know my dogs well enough to know how far to push it. When Luna's had enough, she goes for my hand; I fear her trying that with a groomer. So I continue to push her totthe "far enough" point and then correct her and take it further.

Tonks is so matty these days she just resigns herself and then wriggles around alot so I can't get to the worst of it.
When I use my groomer it is because I am too inflammed to groom myself so the dogs go as is. She is wonderful and makes them look like sheepdogs :D but it costs around 100 per dog
raises hand I DO I DO. My groomer wants them there at 5am and it takes a half hour to get there.

Or cleaning your house before the cleaning service comes.

For what it is worth, I don't do any of it. I always make a huge messy dinner the night before the cleaners come and I typically drop off a very muddy Maggie to the groomers. I don't wash my hair before I go to the salon. I do brush my teeth before the Dentist but that's just because I do that 2x a day, every day (sometimes 3).

I alway brush Nigel before he goes in. I feel bad sending them to the groomers matted...though sometimes I miss some of the matts.
I do it as well, if I don't they come back minus a lot of undercoat
No not crazy NORMAL

Believe it or not it extends to other areas of our lives also, years ago when I use to have a lady come in once a week to clean house, I use to clean before she came

I think it is all to do with we hope no one thinks we have a grotty matted dog or house in our care
I am guilty to all of the above.
Yes I do it, always have and will. This is my way of knowing that my dog is in great shape. There was a groomer that I went too, and she claimed Obe was close to having to be shaved. I blew it off, as she did an excellent job on him. She made the same statement the next time. I let her have right in front of everyone. For heavens sake she used a slicker brush to brush him out!
I know he will not be 100% mat free but I can guarantee he is 98% free of mats and the remaining 2% are nothing but minor mats. So unless I say shave my dog to an inch/puppy cut, a groomer for his/her sake should never shave my dog. There isn't ANY excuse!
well; I got all of Luna's mats out for her grooming, and about 1/2 of Tonks'. Tonks was definitely worse than Luna was, but Luna can be a bit touchier about having them pulled. I expected to get Tonks back with some mats in; I always tell them "leave them if you can't get them, rather than cut or shave them out". But Tonks was (after about 6 hours) completely mat free, and GORGEOUS looking; they both were. And its a week later, and with minimal brushing and keeping up, they are STILL mat free.
