Sheepdogs and rain!

I've got everything in the oven for our big Thanksgiving dinner (okay, smallish guest list but food for forty - it's my Ukranian background which compels me to cook like that!) We always do it on Sunday so that I have Monday to clean. My husband's big job is to tire out the dogs so they'll be calm for our guests.

We were going to a provincial park at the crack of dawn today, but it's cold and raining hard, so that was scrapped. Gordon just bravely headed out with Portage (who hates rain) and Hudson (who loves being filthy) for a long walk as it shows no sign of easing up anytime soon.

By the end of the driveway, Portage had run back to the front step. Gordon coaxed him out, but four minutes later he had to double back to drop off a wet, cranky sheepie. Portage is now wearing one of daddy's sweaters and lounging on our bed (which is now as soggy as he is) in full snit mode.

I ran to the window to watch Gordon and Hudson continue on. Gordon in his red rain jacket, pouting and glaring and clearly unhappy with his lot in life, with Hudson right beside him, leaping and bounding in the puddles filled with pure wet-rat sheepie joy.

I have no idea what we'll do with Hudson when he returns. I wonder if he'd be up for a tumble in the dryer? (Note to all....I'm JUST KIDDING...mostly.) As Hudson bounded down the driveway I noticed his paws are already caked with mud. Hopefully they'll hit some nice paved puddles on the way back, just to get a head start on cleaning.

Portage was born hating rain (but is fine with nice warm baths). Hudson acts like you're killing him in the tub, but loves to roll in cold, sticky mud puddles. Go figure.

(This is totally an aside, but a few weeks ago we let both off leash at the park as there was no one around for miles. It hadn't rained for several days but I guess we hit a low spot and there was standing water all around. The two dogs ran, pounced, jumped, chased and rolled around with each other. It was pure sheepie joy despite the decade of differences in their ages. When they were done, Portage was somehow bone dry and perfectly coiffed, and Hudson was a drowned rat with a big toothy grin from ear to ear. However do they DO that?)

What have we gotten ourselves into wtih guests due in less than three hours?

Happy Turkey Day (a day early) to all from Canada!

Hi Tracie, Hope your sheepie is not too muddy after his walk. We've only
had one at a time before, but recently added a puppy with our Macy. Macy
is 9mths old and Digit is 12 wks old, so I'll soon know all about 2 wet&muddy sheepies. Macy doesn't mind the rain at all, and puddles---who needs to walk around those. Don't know how Digit is going to be in
rain yet, believe it or not we've had great fall weather here in Nova Scotia.
Hope to post new pictures of them both soon. Well hope your Thanksgiving
Turkey tastes wonderful.

I just got Tonks and Luna rain coats for their birthdays from this website.
