Two weeks ago my wisdom tooth started hurting again, the second time in 5 weeks. It used to flare up maybe once a year for a couple of days, these last two times it was a whole week of agony so after the last week of pain I decided to get myself to the dentist I thought he would refer me to the hospital and have it taken out in a few months. But he took an x-ray and said "Well, we can do it now if you like". Well, I explained how terrified I was as my roots are crossed and I've had horrible experiences in the past, but he was very gentle and explained everything carefully so I said OK lets go for it! This was Tuesday. To cut a long story short, I'm still in alot of pain 5 days later. Added to last week's pain before it was taken out, I have not had more than 3 hour's sleep in a row for 2 weeks because the pain wakes me up I'm shattered, totally exhausted. I feel bad for all those people who are constantly in pain. I'm taking ibuprofen, codeine & paracetamol and frankly I feel like my stomach is burning even though I'm careful to eat every time I take the painkillers. Ugh eating hurts so much. To top it all there is a 21 class Championship show just down the road from us I was going to take Ru (to watch) today but I'm in too much pain. We have never been to a show before and I was so excited. Boy am I miserable Cassie (little miss face ache) |

Have you been back to the dentist? I once had a root canal done and he removed only 4 roots not realizing that the tooth had 5 roots. I suffered with the pain that night and went back the next day and he took the remaining root out. Please go back to the dentist if you haven't already. |
OUCH
Hope you feel better soon! |
OUCH!!! I hate dentists too!!!!! I hate going and I put it off as long as I can!!!! Go back!!!! maybe like Helen said he may have left a root!!! Hope you will soon fell better cassie!!!!
Awww sorry you missed the show too!!! |
I'm sorry you feel like cr@p. Please go back to the dentist--tooth removal shouldn't be hurting this many days later...... |
For one tooth that sounds like it was already all the way through, you shouldn't be in that much pain still. Definitely call your dentist because you may have a dry socket. James got one when he got his wisdom teeth out.
http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/dry_socket.htm That being said, I feel your pain. I've broken almost every bone in my body, had stitches and surgery but my wisdom teeth were the worst pain I've every experienced. I had all four of mine removed at once-- cut out actually since they never penetrated the skin so they were sucked out from way deep. It was absolutely terrible. I swelled up like a chipmunk and was miserable for almost 2 weeks. |
I too had all four cut out in 1 day. I was afraid if they only did 2, I would never go back!!!
Todd just had an infected wisdom tooth pulled 2 days ago - and he is feeling 100% wonderful. You should go back - you should be feeling a lot better by now. |
The tooth hadn't come through- he had to cut into the gum to get it out. But in the evening when I took the gauze out I think the clot came off because it bled for a few hours. I thought that would be ok and it would just heal. Sounds like I have this dry socket thing. Ugh I can't stand the thought of going back and being poked about with again |
If the clot came out, 99% possibility of dry socket. You definitely need to see the dentist ASAP. |
I had dry socket. It was the most horrid pain I will probably experience in my entire life. Go back to the dentist. They will pack it with an medicated something. Least that is what they did with me. Wasn't to long after that and I was feeling better.
Sorry about your pain. I do feel bad for you. |
I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. I was 19 and it sucked big time. I was in excrucitating pain for close to two weeks.
The first "real" food I didn't have until the 2 week mark because I had been in so much pain. It was french fries and all I managed to do was suck the insides out. I looked like a Hamster... my jaw line was so swollen, but I did get better. If you feel something is not right, go back to the Dr. |
It does sound like you have dry socket.
Your dentist should have someone on call, or have given you a phone number to call. Call him - they get paid big bucks to take care of you. There are thing that can be done to make you more comfortable. I had three taken out at once. The pain meds did not for me, but the anti-inflamatory meds made a huge difference. As long as I took them, I didn't need the pain meds. |
I am sure if in England, she is talking about a N.H.S. dentist. No big bucks there, and they are notoriously bad. Go back and make them take care of you ASAP. |
Where would I be without you guys? I phoned first thing this morning and just got back. It was dry socket, the bone was exposed. He packed it with what he described as "hot hair" which tastes pretty horrible. The flesh is supposed to grow over it. It didn't hurt too much as he put it in, I'm having lots of rest now. Thankfully Ru is snoozing in his crate so I have some peace.
And yes it's NHS, and they are terrible -but this guy seems to be OK. Thanks everyone |
Glad you went back!! Hope you are feeling better soon. |
I hope "hot hair" doesn't taste as disgusting as it sounds. The main thing is that you got it taken care of and fingers crossed it heals quickly. Does it still hurt? |
One of my wisdom teeth dry socketed too - it was awful! And the painkillers made me completely nauseous. I had to stop taking them and rely on OTC pain killers, but the dull pain was better than throwing up after every meal. I guess the good news is - I'll never be addicted to vicodin
I hope you feel better soon! |
Glad you have a decent dentist over there. Thank goodness he fixed you up. Hope you feel better soon. |
Dry socket SUCKS, I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you feel etter fast. |
