Recipes

Does anyone know of a good dog food recipe book or a good recipe website? I want to start cooking some homemade meals and treats for my dog in addition to the store bought food. Thank you!

let me look when I get home I have a treat book I love - and the dogs like the treats as well.
Now here is something I can share :D

This is one of our dogs favorites through trial and error and wanting to get some wholsome ingredients to them:
Pre heat oven 325 degrees

1 Cup Oatmeal
3/4 Flax seed meal
2 Cups hot water
1/3 Cup oil
3 cups whole wheat flour
1/4-1/2 cup pro bios granules(optional)
1 egg

In Large bowl pour hot water over Oatmeal, add oil let stand approx 5 minutes.
Add egg and oil to this mixture.
Then add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add pro-bios if you opt to.

The dough should be very stiff. Knead for about 3-4 minutes adding more flour or water as needed.
Roll out approx 1/2 inch thick and cut into your favorite shapes. Bake on ungrease cookie sheet for 50-60minutes. allow to cool and dry.
Not sure what the shelf life is on these though, my dogs go through them pretty quick LOL

I have more, just short on time right now.
Thank you! That sounds so healthy and I am sure she will love it.

Does anyone know anything about the BARF diet or where I can get some info on it? I'm not sure about switching my dog totally to BARF but I would like to incorporate it into her diet.

ETA: well, with a little searching I found this website from an old post:
http://www.ukbarfclub.co.uk/, if anyone else is interested.

Ok, I just read about BARF and I don't think I can feed my dog raw meat! Never mind.
If you do a forum search there are quite a few recipes posted, some are fairly old but would still be available. A google search will turn up hundreds for you.

I really did remember - its Healthy dog snacks and came in a kit (on the sale rack at the big box book store) with two cookie cutters

What I like is there are recipes for dogs with sensitivities, over weight dogs, and very active dogs.
thanks kerry!

bestdogs, I have been searching and I found your ham and swiss on rye and the peanut butter treats recipes. I will be making these very soon. There are lots of great treats!
If you can handle the odor make the liver biscotti that Sheepieboss (I think) posted, my dogs love them 8O . Another good treat is dried sweet potatoes, easy to do if you have a food dehydrator. Just microwave whole until slightly soft, slice and dry. They do take a day to dry if you use thick slices but it's hands off time.
