sheding?

I am thinking about a oes puppy but still have to sell my husband on the idea. How severe is the sheding? How about if they are kept short? This isn't about their hair but how big are your dogs?

Actually they don't shed at all. They lose hair like humans since they have hair & not fur. So you aren't going to get up from the couch covered in hair like you would if you had a Lab or a Beagle. No seasonal shedding. They will lose hair when you brush them. And you may occasionally find a wad of hair in the corner or something. But nothing like having a short haired dog.
there's no noticeable shedding, but LOTS of grooming is required. You need to be prepared for that aspect of the breed!
The don't usually she much at all. I have a female who blew her entire undercoat during one heat cycle (and only one so far) but other wise there is much more Irish Setter and Newfoundland hair on the floors in my house than OES. Now OES hair is definitly on my clothes

My girl is about 70 pounds and my boy is 110 pounds - but he is on the larger side.

I think if you look back in the posts you can see how people grow in their understanding of how much grooming is needed. the same person who says their dog doesn't matt because they groom them so well at 5 months is having the dog shaved at 10  .
Be very careful about claiming they don't shed. They don't shed as much as say a golden retriever but THEY DO SHED. Some more than others. When Tasker's hair starts to get long I always know when it is time to make an appointment with my groomer, the dark blue carpet in my dining room turns white.

OES do not shed like some breeds but they do shed.

this is almost me. I had so much bravado at 6 months old, bragging about how with a little daily brushing, i was keeping my girls coats in really good shape. Now at 12 months, I'm fighting desperately to NOT have to shave Tonks. She mats up so rapidly; stuff I brushed last night is matted today. Oddly, her sister Luna hasn't gotten this bad yet. But now that I have a better understanding of their development, I'm sure it will happen shortly. I'm so grateful they aren't both matting up at the same time; I would certainly have to shave them down...
Sometimes I think it is just easier to go and clip them...just get rid of the baby fuzz...but it keeps coming back until they are around 3.
Mine are 65 and 75. Blue not done yet. As for shedding not like short hair dogs by all means. I fine if I do a lot of brushing there could be hair on the couch the next day, but its what I brushed out. They seem to get dust bunnies under the couch and in corners (I blame it on my cats  )Shave down is great when loosing their baby fur. Sami is 2 now and a big difference between her and Blue, if it was not fall now I would shave him again that and he is to dare cute. start brushing when young so they do not fight with you when they are bigger.
thank you so much for all your help. I am introducing the puppies to my husband tomorrow. Cross yor fingers and he hopes he falls in love like I did:)
oh he's doomed. Thats how I managed it. I dragged my boyfriend with me to pick out a puppy...I mean to "meet the puppies". At the end of that day we got two instead of one!

I hope it works out for you as wonderfully as it did for us!

Definitely read into all the other breed aspects before you jump into anything. Grooming is beyond extensive, but they have other traits that aren't for everyone. That being said, they have traits that many people love, too but you really need to do your research because overall, they are a high maintenance breed.
research the breed before getting a puppy. they are different than any other breed i've been around.
I always have long curly white hairs on everything black that I own. To be fair, we have two medium haired cats that get hair on everything. Tell me again why I wear so much black...it must be so that I can show the world I am living with animals. (and teenagers)
