Thanks, Deana |

I think my parents used them in their small bathroom in their old house. They looked nice, but they moved not too long after putting them in, so I don't know how well they hold up. |
Hi Deana any experience I have had with these tiles is they need a couple of days to really stick to the floor but once they are stuck down they are stuck down so if you are thinking of changing them think first about moving house. Have fun Stewart |
Mine are down permanantly too...no problem sticking to the concrete floor. |
I actually do have experience with these. I have used at least
three different ones. Here is what I can tell you. Don't think you are going to get off cheaper. In order to have a nice finished project you have to buy the best you can afford. The cheaper ones are generally softer and thinner and they will slide over time. The first ones I used actually kept moving even after they had been down for a few years. If you have a big area to cover it is even more important. The smaller the area the less they tend to move. The last ones I used were very very hard and not nearly as flexible, but they did a fantastic floor. They were harder to cut, but easier to place, and they stayed in place. It is very important to get a sealing kit and seal the seams - yes all of them. This will help in keeping the floor as you intended it. You must do a chalk line - I know it seems like so much more work, but it is probably the most important part of laying the tiles. You have to get them very tight as you lay them, and they have to be square with each other. This also helps them stay in place. I had a floor problem in the house we just bought and I ended up having to tear out and level a 4x5' section. I used a high grade tile and I couldn't be happier. It's been a full year since I did it, and I haven't had any trouble. The floor is still smooth and there has been no movement. So my advice is: yes some do move, but the higher quality ones generally don't. Don't skimp and make sure you do the job square and true, and take your time. Think out each step and lay out what you are putting down before you stick it. This is one of my favorite projects - I can answer most any question you have. Shellie |
they have some new ones out called ALLURE traffic master. They have the stick part around the edges and you stick to each other the bottoms do not stick to the floor they look like tile or hard wood. If you get the tile they stick down as three pieces of tile already together. The hard wookd looks like laminite. They re at home depot here and at a very good price. I thnk .89 to 1.29. They are cool and you can google it. |

Jaci (6Girls) and I both did that in our houses. I love the way it came out. If we did it again, I'd put down a layer of luan plywood to make the floor extra smooth but it came out really well anyway. James rented a roller from Home Depot to really flatten it out and it came out excellent. We did a 13 x 13 room for right around $350 plus we had to buy quarter round, paint and wood filler to finish. |
We have used these kind of tiles for over 27 years. The first brand we used was Armstrong & they held up very well for over 23 years. Actaully the only reason we redid them was because we had been in the house that long & it was TIME to remodel & redecorate! I have them in my laundry room & kennel also & they hold up very well with frequent mopping in those areas. In the family room & kitchen I replaced the old with new but I can't remember the brand off hand. But they have a beveled edge & they look like ceramic tile. Everyone thinks I had a very expensive ceramic floor put down! I figure if the new last about as long as the 1st ones did, I'll probably be in a nursing home by the time they need replaced! |
we love the ALLURE too. It was almost fun to install. Very easy. We Plan to do more rooms.
We decided since we will always have a dog, this type of material is best...they say it is 100% waterproof. We have the oak color and it is textured as well. You can feel the knot holes. Thanks to this forum we now have a dog proof family room that we have spent more time in than ever. Leather couch and all. |
