NIKKI A RESCUE SUCCESS STORY!

We had a great week. Nikki as you all know from other posts have been doing so much better. In fact, we have a great dog park here in town and brought him and Lucy Friday. There are three fenced in areas. One for the un social dogs, 2nd for the more social and the 3 for the free for all dogs. Well, we went to the small one just to let them get some exercised. Lucy loves the park and does very well there. Well, a friend from the park came up. She was worried about some of the dogs in the other pen and wanted to join us. Of course, I told her the situation and said that I would be happy to leave. She said not to that her dogs were good and gentle. and If there was a problem we would handle it. So at her own risk they came in. NIKKI WAS FANTASTIC!!!!! I could have cryed. He was wonderful. He had a such a good time. Then slowly other people joined us due to the questionable dogs in the other pen. Again, he did great he was wonderful. I even started to relax and was at one end and a lady came in with a miniture chichacha. (SP  ) My heart stopped! After him killing Thumper the though of something smaller than him was very scary. I ran over there as fast as I could but Nikki was just fine. Could have cared lesss. In fact, I changed pens because I was scared Lucy would step on the tiny one by accident and hurt him. In fact he did so well we went again today and he was great. Just ggreat! WHAT A SUCCESS!!!!!! We finally left when some other dogs got into a tiff. Lucy and NiKKI came running to me when it started to go down!! There were even some people who where interested in him. ANOTHER SUCCESS RESCUE STORY!!!

Thanks alot both of you! I really apprieciate your support. There were some scary times and some very sad times but all is well and he is going GREAT!
That's great news! I'm glad things are going well... :)
I wish we had dog parks around here... there is a huge beautiful park by the river just down from my house, but I've only seen other dogs there a couple of times, it's very rare that there is anyone there at all....
Shy just looks like she is having such a good time. You can see the smile on her face and her ears flapping as she is running through the snow! I just LOVE that picture!
That picture looks so much like Ashley's first snow experience...after she got over her initial "I'm a FLORIDA GIRL and the SKY is FALLING and I'm NOT going out there!"! LOL! Gotta love 'em!
Well Willowsprite, how did the show go?! She looks beautiful!!!
Hi!

I've sorry I missed this post earlier. Oh you just made my day as I love hearing successful rescue stories!!! You obviously had a lot to do with his wonderful transformation allowing him to see that people are good and can be trusted.

It's so good to hear how it turned out well at the dog park! Way to go and keep us posted!

Any pictures? Would love to see some of the two of them.

Glad to hear that Nikki did well at the dog park - we have two new ones in Daytona that he will enjoy. There is also a dog park/beach here. It is more informal than the dog park but it is a fun place for them to interact. Bubba never goes in the water it is just a chance to go for a ride and to meet other dogs. Also, we live in a very doggy neighborhood - everyone has dogs and walks them. We live beachside about five houses from the beach so we are short on children in the neighborhood but long on pets. So, he will have a big extended family too. I am already getting Congratulation E-Cards from my friends.

Does Nikki like going to Petsmart? This area seems to be very pet friendly, Bubba has gone to Dog Parades, a Doggie Derby at the Orlando Magic arena. There is even a motel here in Florida that is all set up for dogs and their owners with a central enclosed courtyard, where you can go and the dogs all intermingle together while the owners sit around and brag about their pups.

By the way we semi-retired to the beach early - I am 57.
Linda,
Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you found it in your heart to adopt Nikki. It sounds like he's found the perfect home for him!

Even experienced owners find new and useful info here. I've owned (or have they owned me?) sheepies for 25 years, and I'm STILL learning!

As I sit here staring out my window at the snowstorm, Florida doesn't sound like a bad deal right about now!

Chris
Linda, it was great to meet you yesterday. I was going to call and see how thing were but I didn't want to bother you. I know Nikki is very luck to have been found by you. It seems like a perfect match that could only be made in heaven! Take care and if you need anything or have any questions feel free to call anytime. I know Nikki has already forgot about us! :D
