I always thought Lucy was the perfect OES name but my kids had a mutt named Lucy...maybe I could go for Lucybelle, same theme as Christybelle.... any comments or suggestions? I need to have a firm name in mind by the time we get a puppy, hopefully after Christmas all being well. Thanks in advance... |

I'm fond of Hermoine... but I named my girls Tonks and Luna. I'm a bit biased. |
I am also looking into non people type names. So far I like Zosie,Saffy, and Tannah...I do know some people think of these as people names. No offence. |
Honestly, I do not like Emma?Zoe?Chardonnay?Hermione?
I do like Zosie,Saffy, and Tannah ...all three are great, but I like Tannah the most. |
I have always called my yorkies, non human names Tammy, Pepper, Misty and Tilly. But hubby always goes for human names Katy, Polly and Summer. I love Saffy and Buffy. Holly if it is Christmas, or Misty short for mistletoe? |

Ursula, Bethany, Xandra, Marushka, Violet, Velouria, Kismet, Bismillah, Aloise, Genevieve, Nadine, Meru, Tatiana, Elsbiet(ta)(te), Kermit, Vladimira,

GREAT suggestions,keep em coming,I LOVE Kizmet!What a great name,definately on the short list!Kizzy Koo,Kizzy Face,so many posible nicknames! |
Hi,
I dont know if im the only one from the UK who thinks this, but where I come from is unfortunatley a bit of a ''common'' area!!! Lol.... Quite a lot of young mums where I live have called their kids Chardonay.....a name I used to like untill I hear ''Chardonay get back ere now'' in a really common accent being screamed accross the shopping center !!! Lol. I like human names for dogs.... My baby is called Jasmine, could not decide what to call her and her pedigree name is Sweet Jasmine Girl and I liked it!!! I am considering putting a theme to all my future pets names....for example...all Disney characters, Ariel, Simba, Nala etc.... Already have a cat called Belle. OR Cadburys chocolate bars....Wispa, Crunchie, Buttons etc.... I also like names like Hope and Faith. I think these would be nice for 2 Sheepies. Hope you find the perfect name.... x |

Uhhhhhhh.... when has this not be considered a human name? I know someone on this board that would beg to differ too. edit: After reading all the suggested nonhuman names... I think we all need a lesson on what is and isn't a normal human name. |
Everyone sees names they would chose either way different dont they?? I have known Pepper to be a human name too......
None of that really matters too much as long as you like it I suppose. Good example is a couple that live near my that have called their son Storm. ! I would not choose that as a human name, but I quite like it and its nice! Sky is a nice name too.... |
Manchester aint that common Gal, you should hear wot some of the mums round ere call their kids, Precious, Cheyenne, Kai, all of the pop star names |

YEAH!! someone else likes my name!!! shot glasses and pocket combs here i come! |
my mother, who had raised and bred our first family OES, insisted on Human names. She said since the dogs think they are people too, they must have people names or it would hurt their feelings. (How she allowed us to name one of our pups Mopsey I'll never know). It sort of makes sense; I've yet to meet an OES that didn't think it was a person, or prefer the company of people.
So when I named my two Tonks and Luna she was indignant; until I explained they were people names from the Harry Potter books. |

I had a lovely lady named Kismet it is Celtic meaning fate or destiny. We called her many nicknames but, Ms Kizzy is a perfect name! |
whispering it hard through clenched teeth, calling it softly as if through a crowd, does it fit into a song (modified for your sheepie), will you want to hear this name endlessly for the next 10, 15, hopefully 20 years?
The real test, I've found, is can you yell it full tilt across a field or dog park without it seeming awkward, unwieldy, or pretentious. and I'm tickled you like Kismet, yippee!! few more... Kazimir, Zhivago (you in your fur coat...), Tolstoy, Kigali, Ivecka (ee-vech-kah, the first syll is actually a short i, more like in Eve), Nikita, Tribbles (star trek.... little fluffs like mini balls of OES that took over), Suzette, Kennedy, Twila, Lucia, Jezebel, Bealzebub, Tatanka, Lola, Trillian (Trillium), Denali, Talkeetna, Trinity, and Trixie. i'm stopping now. must. stop. =) |

The real test, I've found, is can you yell it full tilt across a field or dog park without it seeming awkward, unwieldy, or pretentious. Yeah try yelling BEOWULF!!! across the dog park. People just look at me funny - some hear Bear, some hear wolf. I just automatically say - its my husband's dog he named him!!!! |
I know what you mean. When we got our last OES,I went through about 6 names before settling on Tabatha, and my teenage son insisted her 2nd name be "Kat",he said after his then fav Eastenders character...so heres me in a park calling Tab ..."Here Tab...Tabby....TABBY KAT"finally it clicked what he had done,he just wanted me to be calling for a tabby cat and getting a large hairy sheepdog instead!
My daughters name is Kristyanna(yes she was named after a former OES Christibelle,my husband insisted I modify the name)when she was a baby she would try to kiss us by sucking on our face so she was nicknamed Kissyface by her brothers. Now she is 14 and above such cutey labels but I would love her nickname to live on.....Kissy,Kissyface.Just have to go Google,is it spelt Kismet or Kizmet?I think its a really great name for an OES. |
OK you are right, its Kismet...Destiny, a predetermined course of events......Fate; a predetermined or unavoidable destiny.
Seems really fitting. I will just have to remember NOT to go yelling "Kiss,Kiss" in the park!I did that once in the supermarket when my daughter was small and had run ahead and got some weird looks! I think Kismet is THE NAME!!!! Thanks so much for everyones input.Weirdly,I just knew if I asked, someone here would have the perfect name for her. Re Chardonnay, here(Australia) its only used for wine, but I watched Foo'ballers Wives on UKTV so I can see where its popularity came from!(over here Footballers has a T in it,lol) |
I am going to steal Mz Kizzy as a nickname! |

Ahhemmm!! My non-human name might explain a lot of things I've been wondering about for years.... j/k Sue! We've got some truly strange names for kids these days...I'm thinking of some of the celebs naming their kids things like Apple?? Seriously?? Why not Copier? Or Grass?? |
Copier. LOL! |
I like the name Rags, Jazz, or Jazzy. |
little bear wrote: or Miss Jones
OH, what about Mrs. Jones!!! She would have her own song!!! |
I was Miss Jones for 20 years before I got married!Really. |
Whatever name you choose, wait till you see your new sheepie girl, have a few ready . I had a name picked for my previous one and when she arrived, it did not suit her, she did not respond to it and we changed the name then. Now Brie rather then charlotte.
So waiting with a few names ready to go and see what you think best suits her and her personality is my suggestion. How did you go with the OES state clubs? Hoping you get a new baby real soon. |
I got onto the clubs, one man from the OES Qld sent me pictures from a day when breeders, showdogs and pets got together in a park in Brisbane so that was great, and I got onto a breeders list, she has a litter at present but all the girls are spoken for,so she has added me to the people wanting girls list.I am really happy as she is well known and great reputation.I feel confident and happy to wait for one of hers.(And save up to pay for it,I was a little blown away what pups sell for now!Its been a while!)I shall thin out the doll collection and sell some on ebay. |

Sweet Jasmine Girl wrote: Hi,
I also like names like Hope and Faith. I think these would be nice for 2 Sheepies. I think these sugestions are fine or how about Missy, Candy Floss, or like my bitch Misty. You have to keep a dogs name preferably short, and it should contain two syllable's e.g. Mis-ty, Can-dy, Mis-sy etc. and preferably end with a i,e or y to make it clear for the dog to understand. I always try and follow this as far as possible at the moment we have a bitch called Mis-ty, and two dogs one called Ham-ish & Zor-ro. Have fun with the name game. |
cheyennebuford wrote: I like the name Rags, Jazz, or Jazzy.
Me too!!!! But I am biased...... My last OES was called Rags...Knicknamed ''Ragsy Baby'' and My current OES is called Jasmine... Kicknamed Jaz and Jazzy!!! |
