feeding puppy food to my adult bichon frise

does anyone out there know whether it is ok to feed puppy food to an adult (bichon frise) particularly one that is going to be bred shortly? my puppy (also a bichon frise) loves to "steal" his companion's adult food and vice versa...isn't it always the case, we always want what the other guy has! well, maybe not always!
