I finally have my very own sheepie. His name is Curtis and he's the most adorable thing on four legs. I'm sure you could all argue that, but when he looks at me with those adorable blue eyes... well, you all know what I mean. Anyway, I'm writing to inquire about anyone who has allergies as well as a sheepie companion. As a child, we had an OES and I was never allergic to her, but now, 10 years later, I'm totally allergic to Curtis. I would never want to find a new home for him, but to be honest, after being owned by Curtis for almost a month, the excessive allergies and asthma are beginning to take a toll on my overall health. I would give anything to be able to cuddle up with him while we watch TV every night, and to let him give me wet kisses, but right now that's just not possible and it's breaking my heart. I've tried Claritin, Allegra, and Clarinex but none of them are helping. Curtis regularly lets me spray him down with Nature's Miracle anti-dander deodorizer as well, but again, it's not helping very much. Is there anyone out there who can throw some advice my way? I would very much appreciate any ideas from this group especially if you've had any similar experience. Thanks a bunch, kids! |

Go and see a good allergist. It may be possible to go through a desensitising process that will take the allergies away. You won;t find home remedies and medication efective unless you can pin down the exact allergin. It may not be Curtis at all - it might be something you ate, dust in the air or even your favourite perfume - and you may need to look 72 hours back to find the source of the problem. Hey kids,
Just as a follow-up to this in case anyone else experiences problems, my doctor put me on Zyrtec for my allergies and it has worked like a charm! I've saved mad money on tissues lately! |

Way to go, Missy!!!! |
Muchos Gracias to all our new OES.org pals! |
Hello:
I was reading about the lady who has allergies and she thinks it is her OES. There is a possiblity that its is not her doggie at all. I have allergies all year long, and my allergist suggested I get rid of my giant schnauzer. Well, I could not do it, so kept on and my allergies never got any worse. After I lost her last Nov. I certainly did not see any improvement without the dog. I have recently aquired an OES. and I have no problem at all with him. My skin would get red and welts with my schnauzer but it does not with my OES. I am on a program for allergies, which helps me 100% It is an inhaler that I use each day. It is for quick relief / long term relief. It is called symbicort. Wow!!! It has changed my life. Bettyl |
Glad everything is working for you guys...sheepies are a must around us missy and smokey
By the way...smokey, I guess your doctor prescribed symbicort just in case i thught I`d tell you this, my cousin was prescribed it for allegies and since it had cortizone in the long run it was more harmfull than helpfull....hope this is not your case but be careful and consult your doc on this. I'm glad everything worked out for you guys - this reminds me of a funny story about when I got Shaggy. My boyfriend, who is allergic to everything, was worried about being allergic to the puppy. He bought him for me for Christmas, and I insisted he go with to the breeders when I picked him out. This way he would be exposed to the adult dog dander and the puppy dog dander. He had no problem, but he says on the way home "What if I am allergic and it starts later?" and I said "That would be a shame - I would have to get rid of you." I thought it was funny - don't know how funny he thought it was. Anyway, he has never had a problem with Shaggy although he has problems with many other breeds of dogs. I guess we just got lucky. |
