Laying down to eat

Winston, who came to us a month ago, has very long legs. When he first arrived, he stood to eat and would belch when he was finished.
Now, he's taken to eating while laying down. No belching.
Any problem with him laying down to eat? If needed, I'll buy him one of those elevated stands for his food dish. But he seems quite happy to loll on floor and eat.

Chewie lays down to eat some of the time. He lays down to drink a lot of the time. Mostly when he is really seriously thirsty! He does seem to enjoy it (laying down).

I don't notice any burping either way. Maybe I should try and correlate with his farting though....
my guys lay down to eat too most of the time.
My Chicus eats lying down as well. He carefully positions both front legs so the bowl is right between them.

absolutely Morgan's MO as well. Marley goes in for the sideways attack
Both of my Aussie lay down to eat and Violet OES stands when she eats. I think she likes to stand so that when she is done she can hurry over to see if the Aussies have spilled any kibble over and she can retrieve it.
Nice to hear that it is fairly common. Winston's legs are so long he doesn't always know what to do with them. He's only 23 months old so there's still time for him tol figure out how they are attached to his body.
Lulu my foster gal lays down to eat.
One time I tried to elevate her bowl
and she very politely picked it up
with her teeth and laid it back on the floor
so she could lay back down
Guess she told me!

What a clever girl!
All three of my dogs lay to eat. I have heard that those stands are bad for dogs and can even aid in causing bloat.

that is what the new research apparently shows.
Obe eats standing and lays down when really thirsty as if to say I'm going to be here a while. The elevated bowls are not good as others have mentioned. I did make Obe a stand that holds his water and food. It is only 3-4 inches off the ground. I got tired of him scooting the bowl across the floor.
Our girl, Bailey (just a pup still) lays down to drink her water. She usually lays down to eat but sometimes stands up. She's pretty funny because she'll eat a couple bites and leave the room, then go back for a little more, over & over.... she's the first dog I've ever seen that doesn't just swallow it down in a matter of seconds! :)
Sometimes Luna, little princess that she is, will sniff at her bowl, walk a few steps away to her bed, and lay down there. She then stares at me with sad, sad eyes until I bring her the bowl so she can eat laying down in bed!

Tonks thinks Luna is silly and spoiled, and eats her food standing upright.
Thanks for all of your replies. Its nice to know that other dogs eat laying down. Winston isn't as weird as I thought he was!
Due to joint and ligament issues, I prefer Harry go down on his belly, otherwise I raise his bowl.
