My son lives in Springfield, a "suburb" of Washington. The only advice I can give is for her to find a room mate, I am totally and completely astounded at the cost of housing in the DC area. |
My son lives in Arlington, and my daughter just moved to Centreville, about 25 miles outside of DC. When Spencer moved down there, he checked out www.roommates.com to find a place. DC is a very transient area and people are moving in/out all the time, and no one can afford to live on their own. Sarah lucked out because someone she knew from here moved down there there at the same time, so they share a condo.
If she's just looking for an apartment for herself, she can also check out www.rent.com . You just tell them what area you're looking in and they give you a listing. Tell her to be prepared for sticker shock. Everything's more expensive. Sarah is paying more for basic car insurance in VA than she was in PA, too. Same driver, same car, just different rates. |
We live and work in the area (Centreville, Chantilly, Manassas) and I'm a native Northern Virginian... I know the area well. Is your concern price or safety? Price is hard to avoid, but I can certainly give you backgrounds on all the surrounding areas and suggest places to rent or NOT to rent. If you want to send me a PM and give me any details I'd be glad to help all I can!!! |
