help I own a monster

Not really I have a wonderful OES but... Why cant he play by himself? He has stuffed toys, bones, balls, etc. Instead I have tried to type this for 5 minutes now and all I get is woof woof and a paw grabbing my arm away from the computer. Do you want out ? Nope goes out and comes back in and looks at me like aren't you coming. Is he spoiled? YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Go grab a stuffed animal and throw it around, run circles around the yard, go chase the squirrel, just let me wake up and have some coffee please son.

You might as well forget the coffee in the morning! :D Your guy sounds perfectly normal for an OES. Mine are 3, 8-1/2 & 10-1/2 . They all act the same way. Their favorite thing to play with is us! They will settle for each other now & then. This breed is a "people" breed. They LOVE their humans & there is nothing they'd rather do than be touching them.
oh no; sounds like Obe is oh-so typical!!! I recently read this great OES description online. I felt like it nailed my dogs on the head, and left me feeling somewhat relieved; I thought I was raising my girls to be to dependent on us:

Quote: "This dog needs daily, consistent exercise to be a happy and well-behaved, but he won’t take that exercise by himself. He needs his people to join him and provide exercise opportunities for him."

The fulll OES write up can be found here.

Its from a site called fetchdog.com . I think the description of what goes into owning a Sheepie is pretty accurate. Might be a nice link to direct people to that are considering owning an OES.
please dont get me wrong i love playing with him and i spend as much time on the weekends as i can, which is a lot since he goes everywhere with me, "if he's allowed". i get a melody going in my head and i want to put it to guitar. Well thank you very much Obe but i can play very well without the extra dog paw. Or as in this a.m. pouring coffee and he looks @ me like I'm ready lets go. Got to love them thats for sure.
I know what you mean. Like this morning, I went to put my cell phone in my purse, which was *slightly* around the corner from where Barney was sitting so he couldn't see me anymore...he had to come galloping to see where I was going, but crashed into me on my way back, since I never really went anywhere!

that is sooo panda! even when i put her food bowl down and walk back into the kitchen, she follows me to make sure that i dont leave the room...then shell go back and eat....

toys and playing by herself...forget it! she wants you to play with her...and the rougher the better
thankfully I got two puppies (never thought I'd be saying that). Even as I type; they are playing with each other. Of course, that play often needs to happen in the office where both Adam and I work. And the office simply isn't that big....
Well this validates one of my silly reasons for not getting a second dog....
Harry does play by himself! It is the cutest thing and you cannot move when it starts happening or he quits. We are still yet to capture it on video. I am just afraid if we had another dog then as soon as he started his crazy nonsense the other dog would jump in. Sometimes he is so wild it starts downstairs and moves upstairs. It involves lots of growling and pouncing on defenseless toys. For those of you who saw him "herding" sheep at Nationals he does the barking thing at the toy as well - usually staring it down, then letting out a bark and finally the pounce with a growl.

Since entertaining themselves appears to be somewhat uncommon in the sheepdog world I will appreciate it all the more now.
that's why I have tea while the dogs are outside beating each other silly - and why it is important to train them to go to place when you have something you don't need their help on - like painting - right now Morgan has a white stripe on his nose that won't wash off

OOooooooh! Going to place is one of my FAVORITE commands! I tell everyone else about it, and they look at me like I have two heads! I'm so glad someone else does this!!!! :clappurple:

Sometimes Tonks will play by herself; but its always with a tennis ball. She throws it, then pretends to be surprised . "oh my; look! A tennis ball in mid-air! How did that get there?" Then she pounces on it, runs around a little, and throws it again. Its pretty funny. Luna just watches her, wondering what is wrong with her sister.
At least you have things your dog will play with! Maggie doesn't play with much of anything, but is ALWAYS there to win the Jump On You and Be the Biggest Lick Monster game.

She has gotten to the point where she will chase a tennis ball and chew on a "real bone," but there is no tug-toy, heaven forbid a dog is TERRIFIED of squeeky-toys, she will only lick her stuffed squirrel, and her favorite past-time is watching cars out the window. We had to chase her up the stairs last night for bed because she was in her car-watching spot.

I would like to think we are making progress though......
Nigel will play with his cookie...only if Bella the cookie thief isn't there to take it from him.
