Speaking of Holidays...

Anyone notice Christmas items out already in stores? Normally I complain it's too early despite wanting to start on EVERYTHING early. At least "thinking" about what I plan on doing (for gifts, decor, etc).

This year I'm soooooooo excited! Haven't been a loon and BOUGHT anything, but I CAN NOT wait for Christmas. I'll be with Mr. J and my two beautiful boys ....and all of our family/relatives will be with us. I fuzzy crawls up in me and wiggles anytime I think about it!

Maybe I should ask for an another OES this Christmas.
(only if we win the lottery)

So who is stoked and ready for Christmas carols to stalk our brains!!!

....just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting-tingling too.

I bought some Santa ornaments yesterday.
I went to a Christmas store in Estes Park, Co. in July and bought ornaments...is that early enough?
Wendy, i took Amber's mom there last week when she was here too!

Seems to be my standard "take people too"......... Estes Park, Rky. Mtn. Park, the Christmas Store and salt water taffy! lol.

Now we just need to wait and see if we have little Duncan's running around at Christmas time!
you just reminded me that i need to buy a new tree this year...the old one is 12 yrs old, in sorry shape and smells........

im looking forward to the holidays this yr too....i missed out on last yrs activities!
I've started buying Christmas presents already. :D I've also been giving a lot of thought to the OES.ORG Christmas cards too.
Darcy, the time to buy the tree is just after the holidays... so cheap, it's cause they don't want to store them for another year..... I've done that and got a great deal.

I'm also looking forward to the holidays this year, cooking in a new kitchen

My floor was put in yesterday.... whoot!

i know! but i felt like poo so it got postponed....and that stinky tree is NOT coming back in the house....we store it in the rafters of the garage and it smells like cat pee........yuck!
I forgot that your year was a challenge.... The other thing I can suggest is Michaels, the craft store, I bought a pencil tree there one year, tall and slender... as I don't have a lot of space for a tree that is really big around. It looks really cute up. I first light the whole thing with tons of white lites, then I lay babys breath in the boughs, it makes it look like snow. Then most of my ornaments are hand made, like tons of pine cones painted silver, gold and copper hung with red ribbons... and little birds nests with birds that lay on the boughs... I made and sold those one season, and lots were left over. I think my marketing was not the best, cause they are sweet ornaments....

HEY! youre a copy cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do white lights and babys breath too! always have!!!! i do a set of 3 ornaments on one hanger...either 2 gold and one red or visa versa....and red and green plaid bows.....
We now buy a small "live" tree and put it on a table and decorate it with my very memorable precious ornaments (hard to decide which) and then plant it after Christmas...we now have 2 beautiful frazier firs that I decorate outside at Christmas. This year we may get a different kind...fun and smells sooo good. We have also changed the way we buy gifts...my daughter...we buy a gift certificate to have house cleaned several times...my parents we buy gift certificates to a place, event they will enjoy as they need nothing (fortunate) etc...We have decided to make gifts a memory (going somewhere together, something to look forward to etc..) I have so many gifts over the years that someone spent so much thought and $$ that I spend just as much time wondering what to do with it. With gas, food, heating etc...being so expensive now we are looking at giving presents that will help or be an experience to the recipient. Grandaughters first Christmas...can't wait to stuff her stocking! At 7 mths...it will be lights, bows and wrapping that will interest her most. We are so looking forward to having a little one around at Christmas again..it's been so many years!
Darcy, get a pre-lit tree. They are well worth the cost in the time saved.

We do all white lights on both trees. One is a Santa tree, the other is a Crimson and Cream tree with our Univeristy ornaments on it.

I have enough dog ornaments for another tree, but I need another house that is designed better for a thrid tree. (We are looking and the tree space IS a deal breaker).
I've been waiting for the stuff to appear for several months now!! Hobby Lobby was the first but didn't have what I wanted until last few weeks.

My church does the Giving Tree thing and I make an embroidered felt ornament for every child with the gift info inside. That's about 75 or so. I find I can make them faster if I copy the Bucilla kits.......well, at least they give me new ideas. I can't do the same design over and over. Last year I was so bored I started making flower ornaments.....pansies for Christmas?? Actually they turned out great.

The Hallmark ornaments have been out for months now, but I'm not sure I'll get anymore. After nearly 40 years of collecting......I'm not sure there's room on the tree for anymore   For years I've said, "There's always room for a few more" well, maybe not.

So I guess I'm moving into the Holiday spirit too!
ARE YOU PEOPLE NUTS???!!!!!!!!!

I'm still waiting for summer! This year we didn't even crack 90 degrees. If its below 80...I'm cold. I don't want to think of Christmas for at least another 8 months!!!

I'm doomed.
I finally got my fake tree.
We had an arguement last year because I have horrible allergies to X-mas trees, but I wanted a fake one. Hubby said, "No, it's not Christmas without a real tree."
So instead of giving in and getting a "real" one, I decorated our fake ficus.  After that hubby agreed to let me get a fake Christmas tree.

I got my tree from my friend Alexia, who moved to Mexico last week.
She had two, so I got one. 8) She also gave me a ton of X-mas stuff, so I am excited. All of my X-mas decorations that I have had for years were eated by a Rat in the garage of our last house. The remaining stuff all broke when a shelf in our garage fell.

So for the first time... in quite a few years... I am very excited.
I have two trees-- one I haven't even opened yet. I have a feeling that with Owen around, it might be another year for the Festivus pole too. I'd give you one if you were closer, Darcy.
Several years ago, a women was on the national morning shows with her Santa collection. The women passed away this summer and her is going get the Santa collection next month. The woman is a former parent at our school and her best friend is a good friend of mine. Michelle is going to help Elaine bring the Santas back and gets her pick of the Santas.
Michelle collects snowmen, so...... I have to give her a list of Santas that I want. :D I need three of the Santas of the Century from Midwest of Cannon Falls - my husband wouldn't let me get the rest of them when they were discontinued and it is costing him dearly (eBay prices are twice what I would have paid at the time).
I tink I am going to buy her some snowman dishes.
I don't mind when Christmas stuff comes out this early, ONLY if the store isn't decorated for Christmas, but just has a section with the goods. If the store already has wreaths, etc. up as decoration, then I won't shop there!

I couldn't imagine not getting a real tree. I just love the smell too much, and the task of going out and choosing the perfect tree!

I'm excited--it's the first Christmas with a baby in the house!

I just hate picking up the dang pine needles nightly! Then the hassle of getting rid of it.

LOL, or vacuuming up the needles for months after Christmas.
Also maybe the tree won't be as delicious to the dogs with it not being real. I hope.
thanks jill....thats sweet of you....

you may be surprised though...panda is actually afraid of the tree and avoids it at all costs.....maybe set up a ''tester'' tree....
Bailey avoided the Christmas trees for 2 years, then last year he decided that all of the ornaments were toys for him. I actually had to go back to crating him at night. This year I may try a squirt bottle to discourage him.

Darcy, definitely get a pre-lit tree. It's SO much easier. I have 2 full size trees and one table top - all pre-lit.
Last year was the first year in three that I put up a tree due to the wigglebums. I was just sure that'd destroy it. It wasn't quite the disaster that I expected, but it wasn't all smooth sailing either. There was one type of decoration I put on the tree which Genevieve must've found tasty because she insisted on eating it. So, those had to be eliminated to keep her from getting sick. Then, right toward the end of it's stay, Beaureguard realized that it was a TREE and decided it would be okay to pee on it.

I've not decided whether or not to tackle that again this year. If I had a room where I could put it up, enjoy it, and keep them away from it, I would. But, I don't so it's still up in the air.

You know what, Sue, you've given me an excellent idea. Maybe I'll put one up but just go ahead and put all toys on it so it won't matter if they get yanked off or played with. I'm sure it'll start poor habits but it might be fun!
Until I read this thread, I hadn't thought about the Christmas Trees and our newest addition Asia. hmmmm she is a Tinker when it comes to snatching and running, usually the cats food can. She even does the "hold the head down and hope no one sees what I have in my mouth run". China likes to lay under the Christmas Tree and Asia likes to copy China sooo....I will probably be decorating my trees many times this year. Oh well.

LOL! Makes perfect sense from a canine perspective
it's weird because i remember "winter" like it was yesterday. Guess that's a good thing since I'll never have it again.
It's Dallas not Houston, but with Global Cooling maybe it will look like this soon:
Chilly (Chili?) Texas
Now do you really love texas? That IS NOT snow. Alaska sneezed and that's what happened as a result.
Lasy year I had an x-pen around my Christmas tree. I hung garland on it and it was part of the decor. I may do it again this year as we have a pre-lit, flocked fake tree we bought last year. I can't imagine that stuff is good for the dogs to eat.
The stores look weird with Christmas, Halloween and fall stuff out  . Although I did get my OES.org cards for the mailing list :). Now for a picture to put in them....
I am a true Christmas nut . I love to shop for Christmas stuff and have three times as much as I can use in my little, mid century, bungalow . I love Seasons of Cannon Falls and Razz . My husband has bought me some beautiful ornaments over the years. When I get out the Christmas boxes I spend hours looking at the ornaments remembering where they came from or who gave them to me . I get very sentimental . I'm not a collector by nature but Christmas brings that "gene"out in me. We just got home from our annual camping trip to Oregon. I discovered a wonderful store called"Tiptons" in Seaside. The owner is a lovely gentleman who delights in stocking Christmas items all year round. We had a delightful conversation about why we're Christmas freaks ie : happy childhood memories versus unhappy etc, etc. I was in heaven looking at the beautiful displays and spent $100 in the first 5 minutes ! I have a huge collection of Christmas music and start playing it in early November ( not in the house only in my car ) I'm completely uninterested in other holidays but Christmas turns me into a crazy lady and makes me feel good .
Well, if Norm hasn't found a job by Christmas this year, it will be our first Christmas together in 5 years! AND in this house! i will actually put up the tree, and decorate.... something i haven't done since the first year.....

I love my ornaments....I try to get something from every new place I/We go...... and then we remember the times when we put them up each year. Each dog has an ornament. I need to get busy and do some more.....

I used to put up 2 trees. Our regular tree with all my ornaments from my parents etc. and then i have a second tree where i have all the rosettes we have won over the years, with a Best In Show Rosette for the topper.....

All i want for Christmasn is a job for Norm (here in the states), soon as the man is going to drive me nuts if he doesn't go to work soon........
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I shouldn't be laughing, but I so remember what it was like to have Mr. J back from Iraq. They get a crazy amount of leave initially along with half-day work days for a long time to get them adjusted to their "home life." To those who haven't had their husband leave for a year and change so much in that time period, it seems ridiculous that the spouses would get sick of them so soon, but it happens TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The wives and I would always chat on the phone and talk about how we couldn't wait for them to start work. This is why the military members take classes on how to cope/adjust to life again and their wives!! :) We loved them to death, but men aren't too useful being home all day, every day, when they're just "there" (most of the time not doing anything). It's sadly can be a disruption in your own life when you've been w/o a male for so long. I TOTALLY FEEL FOR YOU ALI!!!

I want Norm to find a job SOON for you, but I hope it's not somewhere that would require him to be away for Christmas.
Ali: I hope you get your Christmas wish, but early, like before Halloween. Crossed fingers that Norm finds a job soon.

Too early to even think about christmas!!!! :?
Some years ago I bought present already about this long before x-mas,
and then I could not find them when I needed them.
I had to run out and by gifts two times that year!

:D Relax, and look at this little video.
:bdcake: Maybe we all already got what we need for Christmas:
