It's the prednisone. The steroid makes them eat and drink more and their bodies don't always adjust well. |
Yep. Barns is on the prednisone and we have to take him out a lot more than usual (he could go days without peeing, well, you know) to avoid accidents. We first gave him prednisone in March I think and I did the usual out routine and took him up to bed and he immediately peed in our bedroom so we ran downstairs (fun at like 7 months pregnant) and he peed outside for literally another minute. It was crazy. So now when he's on the pred we let him out. A lot. Oh, and he drinks a lot of water, so we're back to giving him small, controlled amounts, otherwise he'd drink an entire bowl and then throw it up... |
And when they go off the prednisone, the water that was retained will start being filtered out - more accidents for a couple of days. |
With the predisone take them down slowly off it rather then just stopping it, it makes it better then just decreasing the dose.
Unfortunately that is a side effect with the drug, increases hunger and they drink and drink so what goes in comes out in bulk |
Thanks everyone! My coworker appreciates the OES community! She knew it was a side effect, but wasn't sure if anyone had any suggestions or solutions. She appreciates all the wonderul input! |
