If you take off runingor even walking sometimes she immediatly starting barking, or growling and grabbing clothes. I imagine it's from her instincts of herding. I basically, stop say no loud and if she continues I bump her on the nose... It's hard cause virtually we can't play much with outside cause she just gets to "razzled" we can only throw tings etc.... |

We have a similar issue with our Casey. Anything faster then a walk and he seems to think it's a game and just suddenly stops moving forward and starts jumping up on us and nipping at us.
My husband actually had some luck the other day and started running with him when a car went by (Casey chases and lounges at moving cars) the two stimulus actually canceled each other out and Casey ended up running in a straight line at my husbands side for a full 30 seconds. That was the first time we've been able to do that on a walk. In our yard we have our deck chairs set up in a mini slalom course and we can run around those since he has to follow us and can't get close enough to jump. We've been working on that, it's good exercise but I don't know that we are any closer to being able to run with him. I'm sorry I can't actually offer any advice but I'm hoping someone else can so I can benefit from it as well |
It's funny Obe always grabs my shirt (only a long sleeve T or sweatshirt) and tries to drag me along. I guess its a game. He knows not to grab the nice shirts dont ask me how. Maybe he sees dad is dressed up and not in play clothes.
We play a game where when we walk down the road (private drive) he will bounce from side to side hitting the palms of my hand with his nose. Dont ask me he likes it soooo. Right after that is when he grabs the sleeve of whatever I have on and starts walking. Kind of like its my leash and he is taking me for a walk. Cracks me up so it's hard to be stern about the situation. I would say just keep at it if it seems to be working any at all. How old is he? How long have you had him? Have you done or are you doing any obedience training? |
My mantra for the kids growing up in a sheepie house has always been "don't run!!!!" I still have to remind the girls even at 13 and 15. |
We used to give Bingley something to hold in his mouth when we wanted to run with him when he was younger. At first it was something little like a big leaf we found on the ground, etc. Then we made racing him to the door a game - we never played unless he had something to occupy his mouth. Now when we're out on walks and in a good area to run we will loop the leash up into a circle, hand it to him, and when he's ready for us, we'll yell, "GO!" and run around with him. It worked great for him and really kept him from nipping at our clothing when he was younger. Of course, the "drop it" command is a good thing to know if you're going to give TJ something nicer to hold than just a leaf! Good luck. |

That is SUCH a good idea!!!! Considering Yuki will always hang onto the leash, this could work! The kids can't go anywhere because if they run... here's comes Yuki barking in circles around them. As I've mentioned, she FREAKS OUT when lil J steps into the street. She only nips dogs, cats, and daddy's butt or shirt. She doesn't bother trying to touch me. The LOOK when she gets close lets her know to back off of me, so she'll just do the circle thing around me to drive me insane. |
