panda has ''ocean fever''

okay, thats not the real name of it...but its the ONLY thing that i could figure out why she started throwing up while in cali.....LOTS of throw up...then fine for a day, then throw up....you get the pic......we got home yesterday afternoon and all was well...she ate some kibble and rice, went for a quiet walk and early bed....

then yacked again this morning and hiding in a corner of the living room that she never goes to....so off to the vet we went.....and it seems that she has aquired some type of parasite that digs its way into the stomach wall, hence, her vomiting and upset tummy......so, panda is now on a week of amoxicillin and sucralfate for her tummy....and she got a big ole shot too......

really, drinking the ocean water (what can i say) is really the only change that happened while over there....poor brian has to go back sans panda...whoooohooooooo!

I hope Panda feels better soon! :(

When we first moved to the beach we
learned the hard way that salt water is
not good for doggie tummies.

Feel better lil Panda!
I hope Panda gets well soon!
Poor Panda. Hope she feels better soon!
Poor kid. Maybe she got a hold of some bad fish from the ocean. ;)

Awww, poor baby girl! Hope the meds help her heal quickly.
panda is feeling much better....she ate her dinner about 9 pm and this morning she was wiggling and waiting at the fridge! the amoxicillin pill isnt her favorite...she kept spitting out and eating the cheese....oh well...but she did eat all of her breakfast! yey...pandas belly is on the mend!
We just went thru an amox course with Glacier. Know well the pill spitting. I finally figured out a peanutbutter sandwhich worked great on her. She'd get one bread slice with PB, folded in half. Then sections torn off and fed to dog. #2 piece held the pill. #1 was to prime the pump, #3 was to get her to swallow #2 quickly. You'll find something for Panda.
Glad to hear Panda is feeling better! :hearts:
she usually likes peanutbutter but she wouldnt take that either...so this morning i ran out of patience and just stuck it in the back of her throat...THAT will come back to haunt me tonight....she will hide from me and slink away with her head down....

sue, the bread is a great idea! i think that will work...thanks :D
Try cream cheese Darcy. I use it on Bella's 6 pills per day. She will eat anything if it is coated in cream cheese...and you don't need to use very much.
:clappurple:
I am so happy Panda is feeling better!
You might try canned dog food on a spoon... we use that and canned rabbit for all all the antihistamines we've been giving. Darby's getting 10 antihistamines per day minimum right now :( But she's a happy camper taking them! :D

Take a small spoonful, press the pills into it, then give it to her (hold on to the spoon tight though so she doesn't swallow IT too ). If this doesn't work, load two spoons. They often gobble down the first one because their so darn eager to get the second.
Oh no! Poor Panda! I can't believe California would do that to her...so rude!

Barney says his favorite way to take pills is in a piece of cheese and that Panda needs to just pretend the pill isn't in there. Although he says it's usually pretty effective to eat the cheese once and spit out the pill so you get a second piece of cheese...

in pandas case this morning, she spit it out 3xs, ate the cheese and ignored the pill..... :?
Peanut butter sandwiches are Beaus and Cheyennes favorite pill dispenser. Beau loves it and wont even notice the pill if the peanut butter is extra thick on the bread.
Poor Panda! But I'm glad she's on the mend.
Oh, I'm so glad Panda is feeling better. Maybe her tummy just got upset from the travel.

I think she needs chicken soup!

ahh, my jewish friend!!! it is good for the soul! if it werent so hot here, id make some.....but you know what i AM going to make??????

i have to go to a dinner party and i have to bring one appetizer...ive decided on a clients famous jewish chicken liver pate!!! its to die for...the only thing that i cant find though is shmaltz(rendered chicken fat).....do i have to go to a specialty store for that??? im salavating just thinking about it!!!!!!!

oh and panda and i had a pill spitting competition this morning...she doesnt like bread, flour tort, cream cheese or peanutbutter(i had to try that one again)....my secrect...warm a slice of cheddar cheese in the micro till it just starts to get soft...stick the pill in it and let it harden again....

my minx is feeling much better...thanks for all of your love....i know it helped!
I can't imagine getting schmaltz anywhere but a specialty store. I cook my chicken livers in chicken broth after I have cooked the onions in it until they are mush. Then I use the food processor...can't find a good chopping bowl or blade anywhere. It keeps the whole thing nice and moist...and a little less fattening. Maybe Panda will take her pills in chopped liver!

lol China figured out the same thing regarding the cheese and the pills. She figured that if she spit out the pill that I would wrap it again in cheese...sometimes they are too smart. :D China would get all excited when she saw me go to my purse and pull out her pill bottle.

Sorry about poor Panda girl. I hope she feels better soon.
I know I can find schmaltz in our regular grocery stores here. It is usually in the meat department.

I've stopped using schmaltz in my chopped liver. Too unhealthy. I saute my onions in olive oil, then use that oil to moisten the liver. It's pretty good.

Now if you want to make your own schmaltz, you take chicken skin (with the fat still attached) put it in a pan with some chopped onions, and slowly cook it until all the fat has melted, and the skin looks like pork rinds. This skin is called, "gribanas". Pour it through a strainer into a glass jar. Let stand to cool a bit, and then refridgerate.

As a kid, we were given "treats" of schmaltz on rye bread with raw onions. It was heaven!!!!! (I'm thinking maybe I should make a little schmaltz and have the ryebread treat one of these days.!)
excellent! im going to make my own...plus i bet it tastes better! thanks deb!

since i dont eat it that often, im not going to worry about the health factor...and if no one else likes it, more for me to take home and pig out on
When I was a kid, my mom made mashed potates with schmaltz. It was the only way my dad would eat them. His mom probably made them like that.

I love chopped liver! I have to ask Paula if she likes it. If she does, I'll make some for SheepieFest! YUM!
believe it or not a great way to make mashed potatoes is with anchovies...boil your potatoes as usual...then in a seperate pan add chopped shallots and 2-3 anchovie filets..add a little olive oil...dry potatoes, add shallot mixture mash and add some sour cream or heavy cream.....this type of potato is excellent with a roast!
Mmmm, those mashed potatoes with anchovies sound good! Never would have occurred to me to do that.

The liver, on the other hand, does NOT sound good to me. I know it's probably great, but no thanks.
