From what I have read (still being a newbie) I need to get her ILP registered with the AKC first; is this necessary? I'm expecting this to cost between $100 and $200 dollars; ya think? As long as we're going to SheepieFest! it's not far up the road to Wisconsin. Does anyone have a link to this event; is it on the akc.org site maybe? For all you experienced folks, thanks for taking the time to respond. Rose & Ricardo Jobin |

Short answer: yes, absolutely!
The event is not AKC (or otherwise) sanctioned - just a simple evaluation of whether or not a dog has herding instinct (and a certificate if the dog passes) so no need to get an ILP done to enter. You can just sign up. The test is $40 and it's being sponsored by the OES club of SE Wisconsin. see http://home.netcom.com/~kbloland/embracethemadness/ and/or PM your e-mail address and I can e-mail the premium list (information) plus entry form to you. Beyond that, if you think you may want to compete in AKC herding, agility, obedience, rally or tracking events, you'll want to apply for an ILP/PAL eventually. ($35 application fee) See http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm If you need help with the ILP/PAL application or the pictures required to be submitted with it (two - you take them yourself) and you're coming to sheepiefest ( ) bring it with you (you can print it right off the AKC site) and we'll help (hint, hint, Deborah too ).
