Twin Cities specialty - breed

Well, I wasn't planning on posting anything on breed because it's too hard to keep track of but Jan G just called me to let me know that Mandy won the Open Dog class :cheer: - I'm not sure who with, guessing Toby? I'll find out when someone with a catalog calls

But I do know Dawn & Chewie took second in that class. :yay: Very, very proud of them. LeAnne was showing him until she moved to Minneapolis and Dawn's only been showing him for a little while on her own. She must be flying!

Will post more when I (hopefully) hear how Mandy did in terms of Winners Dog and who she was showing. 8)

Didn't hear how sweeps went. People actually showing are too busy running around and Jan's just learning the ropes of figuring out what's going on. So proud of her for figuring out that she was watching the Open Dog class    Hopefully we'll hear more one way or another.

It must be Toby unless there's a secret boy we don't know about. 8O
Yes, it was Toby. I caught Dawn in the bathroom   changing to have her rally title picture taken

Doug Johnson went Best of Winners. Not sure which dog. They're behind and were still judging bitches last Dawn had been ringside.

Kristine
Still having a hard time getting details from these people!!! Hopefully Sunny will call a little later - she tends to remember these things better than most.

I do know that her Luca - CH Masquerade Megabucks - who still needs one more leg for his novice rally title, hopefully Friday - went Best of Breed. And I THINK one of Doug Johnson's bitches went Best of Opposite, but hold that thought till Sunny or someone else in the know can confirm.

Not sure what went on in bitches or any of the non-regular classes yet.

Off to train the little girls who are very proud of their uncle.

Actually, they could probably care less. Little heathens. <sigh>

Kristine
Well, bit by bit... someone will get on and get it right, though eventually the marked catalogs will probably be online. 8)

Correction on Best of Opposite - I heard that went to a (still! sorry! unspecified) To-jo/Lanward bitch, with Doug taking the points in dogs and then Best of Winners.

STILL no word on bitches. Hopefully someone else will pipe in and fill in the blanks.

(with apologies to Joy and Doug for not knowing their dogs' registered names  , but I'm kind of naked without a catalog)

Also heard that Joy did very well in sweeps, but again no details.

I thought bitches were later in the week?
has the top twenty winnerbeen announced yet?

The Twin Cities specialty is a regional - albeit it one with a larger than normal entry (roughly the same as the national which is today and Friday) and was all judged yesterday. I.e. Luca won the Twin Cities regional - NOT the national (which hasn't been judged yet)

The national is divided by day, so you're correct: today is sweeps and dogs, tomorrow is bitches and Best of Breed. Separate judging from yesterday's event which was concluded by nightfall.

The Top 20 winner gets announced at the banquet tomorrow night. This has been a goal for Sunny for some time - to be able to compete. It's so elegant, so exciting to watch. It's judged by three judges that are not known ahead of time, thus taking some (or most) of the politics out of the judging. Only the Top 20 dogs and bitches in the country (though I believe there are perhaps as many as three Canadian dogs in there this year - presume this means they competed in the US) so ranked based on a certain time period preceding, are invited to attend. Past winners, even if still ranked in the Top 20 may not compete again but may be there sort of "for exhibition" only. Very prestiguous.

Sunny specialied Luca specifically to get him invited. In the process, she also got him invited to Eukanuba and Westminster, but her eye has been on this event all along. His sire won in '03, an older brother won in '05, and that's probably helped spur her on, but you have to believe having to wait several days for the results just adds to "the mystique" and I imagine she'll be sitting there, heart pounding, with the rest of the competitors come Friday night.

There's no way to predict how it will go (more suspense 8O ). When Madeline Ericksson won last year with a lovely bitch it about brought the house down as they say. It's just very exciting. Sunny says he showed nicely, she got her wish to compete and anything else is just icing.

Yeah, whatever!

People typically work hard to be there and it's an honor like no other within the breed itself.

When the specialty heads back East, you and I are going for sure. It's a dressy event. Plan on it. I attended for the first time (spectating of course) in 1999 and it just blew me away. I still get the chills every time I've been able to attend. So different from regular judging.

Kristine
Yes, Top Twenty is a very interesting event. The judges were from UK and Australia this year, so definitely different than the norm. Guests are expected to dress fairly formally as well.
There also is an auction, bar and appetizers served by roaming hostesses - so a fun evening. :D

Toady is going to be warmer too - up to 80 by 3pm. Hopefully a good breeze in the building.

Yesterday was all outdoors, on the perfect green grass, surrounded by aspen trees and very picture-postcard looking. We had a good day - got our rally excellent title and placed really well in a large class. As Kristine said - Chewie got 2nd - 1st went to Mandy and Toby, for the open dog class.

Well, time to clean Chewie up for today's showing and get ready.....
Have a great day, Dawn!! Looking forward to the updates later on. :D
I'll take you up on the specialty "date" I went in Virginia and it was quite interesting. Of course our best wishes are riding with Winston this year :)

ANd thanks for clarifying about the twin cities and the national - teach me to post before caffeine!!!

I went to the herding clinic with morgan today - very interesting. I'll email you tomorrow after its doen, but you definitely want Ann Witte ont ehperformance list and sheis agreeable. A great resource even for people not in Nebraska.
I suppose I should dig around & find my marked catalog & list the winners & placements for you guys. I'll try to a bit later here. The 14 hour drive home Saturday has me lagging a bit here. (I did ALL the driving while Mom rode......my preference) :D
On one note, my veteran bitch: Ch Ken-Bear's Call Th' Wind Mariah CGC went Best Veteran Bitch at the TCOESC Specialty on Wed. from an entry of 3. There was no Best Veteran competition between the dog & bitch at Wed. show. Mariah is on her way to 9 years of age & I must say did a great job of moving in the ring. I had several people take the time to compliment her & tell me they couldn't believe she was actully that old. My Mom was sitting ring side to see her win so I was happy for that.
Woohoo Mariah and Marilyn!

Marilyn, that's fantastic! Congratulations!

Veterans is always my most favorite class to watch at any specialty. And how wondeful your Mom was there for it.

Thanks Kristine. She's a very special dog to me. It is so nice to have so many people, who have no idea who in the world I am, take the time to let me know how much they enjoyed watching her in the ring. Makes me feel like our breeding program is working.
