If you use the search tool there are LOTS of posts here about grooming, very helpful! If you are looking for someone to show you in person, what about your breeder? |
Hello!
Just to get you started....a common factor in matted dogs I see as dog groomer is that people swear they brush the dog and don't understand how they got matted....I'm sure they brush the dog because the top of the coat is well fluffed the rest is a mess....when you brush, brush in layers. Lift the hair up say from the belly and brush a small layer, make sure to go from the skin to the end of the hairs.....then bring down another row of hair and so on.....also never underestimate the power of a good undercoat rake.....sorry I'm not very good at written instructions. If you do take him to a groomer and he is full coated keep her on a 4 week schedule....it will make his life alot easier! Anyway that is my 2 cents worth....hope it helps! |
Shermansmomma,
I posted in the thead "Learning to groom for show" a couple of weeks ago. While it is in a "show grooming thread" it actually addresses basic line grooming which is fundamental to pet and show dogs. I have also just submitted an expansive series of photos that Ron will post on the forum for everyone's access. Hopefully this will help you get started. As Willowsprite indicated your breeder should be your first reference for you to learn basic grooming although I realize if he/she is too far away it becomes very difficult to vist him/her for help and demonstrations. Grooming can be a relaxing and bonding time once you get comfortable and know what you are doing Cheers and Good Luck. Carl |
