Try to use room temp water rather than ice cold water so they're less likely to gulp it. Also, smaller amounts at a time so it isn't so much in (and out!) at once. |
Miss Ellie has thrown up water since the day she arrived. I try to keep her intake measured, especially when she has been exercising. Doctor says she has a small stomach and can't hold a large amount of food or water at one time. He said it's nothing to worry about.
She will clean up her mess is she does get a bit too much. |
Barney threw up his water ALL THE TIME as a puppy, and we had to monitor his water. He mostly outgrew it, but now that he's on steroids he'll drink til he pukes again, so it's back to smaller amounts of water in the bowl. |
Archie used to throw up cold water we moved to the ambient temperature water, this seemed to cure that, we also used to restrict the amount he could drink in one go. |
Oscar was a "water regurgitator" as well, so we limit the amount he gets at one time to about 10 - 12 oz. When he's thirsty, and there's no water in his bowl, he pokes it with his nose so it clangs, and waits until we fill the bowl. Can you say SPOILED?????? It's rough being a sheepie in our house.

You could try no water (or food) close to excersize time, so no drinking for a half hour after a walk. For a large breed dog you shouldn't feed near exercise anyway to reduce the chance of bloat. |
