Oh yes, they can howl! Not only does Dudley howl, but he taught his brother and 11 neighboring dogs around us to howl. You can imagine the sound when the fire trucks go by. I must be very popular with my neighbors!

my girls howled on the car ride home from the breeders, at 8 weeks old. They've never done it since. I'm a bit sad about it; Luna's howl was hysterical. Hers has vibrato added to it; it sounds so strange! |
We call it singing here |
My first sheepie would howl when the fire sirens went off. We lived right near the siren and he would put his nose in the air and howl his lungs out. But he wasn't good at it. Sounded like his battery needed charging |
Nigel is so spoiled that every time I go out a door without him he starts this hysterical barking that is really a long bark with a little beagle bay in it. I have NEVER heard an OES do that before, and he is my 4th boy. He really is a little stress monster. |
Harry taught Jack, MO and Glacier to howl. They are quite the quartet. Sometimes the neighbors' dogs join in, it gets noisey. Harry has a nice haunting howl, Jack's is lower, Glacier's is more a rumble and MO, poor MO, her's has trouble getting out of a yip. |
maybe they are reverting back into wolf mode? |
We love it when Gus howls, it makes us (and all of our neighbors) laugh because he sounds SO pitiful. When we hear sirens we mute the TV or whatever is making sound and ask Gus if he's "going to help them out?" and he usually starts howling soon after. He is a big fan of fire trucks. Here's his video on YouTube, even the Simpsons are good enough for a howl!!

I had a Siberian Husky that would howl on command, it was great. Simon, I have never heard him howl and Gar, twice. I played the video and thought that Gar was going to break his neck with the head tilt. That made me laugh. |
My Shaggy just started howling as well, it is always in concert with the Malinois barking and crying when I leave the house. The howling is deep, rather loud and sounds so pathetic. He will not howl in front of me though and I even had to peek into a window in order to get a glimpse of him howling away. Silly Sheepies...what will they think of next. |
I have never heard Baloo howl.... bark like mad ~ Yes, Howl... not so much.'
Would love to hear it!! |

When the sirens go by the house is filled with beautiful singing - if it weren't for Patch, there wouldn't be anyone in the house who could carry a tune! I love her sweet voice. |
Gus is so funny...and a cutie! |
