Hayley is having surgery on the 24th. (Tonsils and Adenoids)

I knew this would end up happening. Hayley has had sleep apnea since she was born and drools like it's going out of style. She also suffers from night terrors.... probably related to the sleep apnea. (Her Dad is the same way and will be going for a sleep study as soon as they get it set up). I wake up with her everynight at least once, usually 3 times.

She has very enlarged tonsil's and adenoids which is cutting off her airways when she sleeps.
The ENT feels this would stop her sleep apnea and drooling and hopefully the night terrors. I could use an uninterrupted night of sleep.

It took about 7 months to get the referral to the ENT.
But he seems to be a really good Dr and all of his patients really like him.

I am sorry to hear about Hayley. Good luck to her on the 24th. I'm sure you will see a big change afterwards.

:ghug:
Poor Hayley! And poor Elissa! I'm sure you'll see a world of difference after the surgery. And 7 months for a referral??? Yikes!

As for Billy, does he still have his tonsils?
My friend's son had the same surgery...no more strep throat!!! It is supposed to stop the snoring too. I am sure she will be fine, but it's always tough when the little ones have surgery. Lindsay had to have tubes put in her ears at 14 months...I was a wreck!
Awww so sorry Hayley has to have surgery. How old is she? Laura had the same surgery when she was four. It was the best thing and it solved a lot of problems. Laura would sleep so soundly she would wet the bed. This even helped that problem. I know you are worried, things will work out fine. You'll feel better once everything is over so will Hayley. :ghugs:
My son had this surgery when he was 5. He had allergies and recurrent upper respiratory infections... the allergist thought it would help. I remember he sat up on the bed when they took him in and he was sitting up again when they brought him back. It's so hard when their so little (especially on the parents!) but he did just fine.

Hugs to little Hayley :hearts:
Poor Hayley...
That must be so scary for both of you.
Good Luck
:ghug:
Hayley is 3 yrs and 8 months old. I do hope what they say about being younger for the surgery and a quicker recovery is true.

The Referral was not supposed to take that long, instead of being processed it was filed in her file. I finally called to check up on it, lucky I did or we wouldn't have seen a Dr.

Yes, Billy does still have his tonsils. He is the only one.

I had mine out at 16, same problems as both kids with the VERY swollen tonsils, but I still have my adenoids. My recovery sucked...big time. :(

Ryan had his out in June 2007, I really hope Hayley will be a good little patient. Ryan was trying to scarf down a cheeseburger two days after surgery. He recovered quick and was starving for 2 weeks until he could eat solid food.

Hayley is looking forward to the Ice Cream though.
Lil J wishes he could be there to hold her hand. Poor thing. Hope all goes well, she gets spoiled big time, and it improves things!! Big hugs to ms. cutie!

on a side note, lil j suffers from night terrors (regularly) as well. He actually STARTED snoring and drooling after his tonsils were taken out, but that all went away (just in case same thing happens to her)
I had my tonsils removed in my twenties after a few decades of continual tonsilitis! it is a lot easier on children.

I am sure everything will go like a dream for her, don't forget to stock up on the ice cream! (for us adults at the military hospital it was a diet of dry toast and cornflakes! )
POor Hayley! I hope it helps, though. Little ones seem to heal much faster than adults, so I'm sure she'll recover in no time.

Yes, stock up on ice cream and good videos to watch.

Good luck Haley!!!!! Poor little thing...
Ice cream for Miss Hayley! It will be easier on her than on Mom and Dad! I snored and had hearing problems until I had my T & As out when I was 8. I'm sure everything and everyone will be just fine.
Poor Haley, LOTS OF LUCK!!!
I hope that she at least gets to miss some school or something. That was the best part about the surgery!
Poor sweetie, hope the surgery helps her sleep apnea problem.
Hey, she's having surgery on my birthday????? Well I'll save some Ice cream for her!!!

Love and kisses to Haley.

Marianne

Good luck today Haley!!
Good luck today Hayley/Elissa. I hope everythihg goes smoothly.
Everything went smoothly and she is home recovering.
She did wake up screaming , but after some demerol she was right as rain. The entire procedure was only 9 minutes.

Thanks so much for thinking of her.
They all seem to wake up crying...or screaming. I am so glad she is ok. I hope the recovery is easy and you get your drawings soon so she can have Lacey up in her room.
Glad to hear everything is ok
Hope Haley did well E and that you are going to give us the all is good report today!
Elissa, I am glad to hear everything went well with Hayley. Now for a quick recovery. :D
Glad everthing went well.

Heres to a speedy recovery
If she woke up screaming, at least you know they didn't mess up her voice box!

I'm glad it went well and it's amazing how fast the surgery was!
Good news! Now she can put it all behind her!
OMG, she was so hyper, until the good drugs wore off. Seriously...running around like someone who did not have surgery, begging for food, to go the in pool....etc

Then her first dose of pain meds wore off and she refused more.
At 10pm last night I finally convinced her to take 1/2 of her pain meds and her anti-biotic.

She had been sitting in her bed moaning and crying for about 3 hrs at that point. I then begged her to take her meds and told her Mommy would be so proud. It worked! But I ended up sleeping with her so I wouldn't have to go back and forth each time she cried.

She is miserable again this morning and refusing meds.

What a stubborn girl!!

Poor baby. Maybe homemade ice pops, spiked with her pain meds.
I'm glad everything went well. She is such a cutie pie!

Jello shots!

Tell her I'm suffering with the worst sore throat that I've had since I got my tonsils out almost (OMG) 20 years ago so I know how she's feeling. Also let her know if she doesn't want her pain meds, Ill take them.
I cannot fool her with putting medication in anything. She's too smart, always has been.

I did get her to take her anti-biotic and children's tylenol yesterday morning after argueing with her for a couple of hours. I also conned her into subsequent doses of Tylenol, though she is still flat out refusing to take the Tylenol with Codeine. The Dr said not to worry about it... as long as she is taking Children's Tylenol.

Luckily, her over reactive gag reflex seems to be a lot less now. Before now, everytime I have given her meds she throws up immediately. She has kept them down.

She fell asleep before her second dose of anti-biotics.
I tried to get more meds in her this morning and she decided she would go back to bed instead.

She's been miserable and whiny and drooling. Very pathetic. :(

She did have some food yesterday, ice cream and some Spaghetti and Meatballs (Chef Boyardee) she requested, "Chef Boy".
I mushed the meatballs and she ate it.

This morning she threw up a few times, she has an over reactive gag reflex and I think it was from all the mucus in her throat. It was all clear with some mucus, so nothing to be concerned about.

The good news is she slept through the night. :yay:
But I did find her in bed next to me when I woke up.

Jill, Hayley said you can have her Tylenol with Codeine, because it's the grossest thing she has ever tasted in her life. Hope you feel better soon!!
My Bryan was that way (25 years ago  ) I remember it was a very miserable week, but you will both get through it!!
awww bless I glad shes getting better... sending hugs xxxx
